Perceived inconsistencies in tribunal and umpiring decisions has Lions coach Michael Voss wary of Brisbane skipper Jonathan Brown being suspended making contact with the head of Gold Coast Suns midfielder David Swallow.

Perceived inconsistencies in tribunal and umpiring decisions has Lions coach Michael Voss wary that Brown would be charged for the incident that took place in Brisbane’s 33-point weekend home win over the Suns.

But the MRP cleared Brown, ruling that his action was a legitimate attempt to tackle Swallow, not a striking motion.

However, Brown's teammate Dayne Zorko was charged with striking the Suns’ Tom Murphy.

Zorko can accept a reprimand for the incident and will also be able to take on the Kangaroos.

While Voss felt it would have been a joke if Brown had been cited, he said the Lions were not "getting the rub of the green" in umpiring and judiciary decisions.

"Please ... that's my response," Voss initially said when asked if he believed Brown had a case to answer.

"Seriously, have you seen the incident?"

But he admitted the Lions were having "challenges" and said the club would seek clarification about the numbers of free kicks and umpiring decisions that were going against them at the moment.

Brown was suspended for two matches for striking Carlton's Michael Jamison in round nine and has 25 carry-over points on his record.

"There's been some very similar incidents that have received no penalty and then there's ones that receive penalties," Voss said in reflecting on Brown's recent ban.

"There are some really obvious things that are happening that just don't seem to be getting adjudicated exactly the same way for both sides at the moment.

"That's where it leaves players a little bit unsure about what can and can't be done.

"Still, at the end of the day, we know that giving away any free kicks or when (you go) high, you always run that risk.

"We've got to make sure we mitigate those risks.

"We're just going to have to continue to work with umpires and the like to make sure we can give our players clarity."
