AFL Women’s launches its logo for 2017 national competition
THE AFL Women’s competition has launched its official logo for the inaugural national league.

THE AFL has revealed its logo for the inaugural women’s league.
The logo pays homage to footy’s heritage, with the goal square and goalposts integrated into the new-look design which also forms the shape of a “W”.
The design was launched on Instagram and Twitter, as the AFL seeks to expand its reach through social media. A number of marquee players, including Katie Brennan and Daisy Pearce, have already garnered large followings on these platforms.
AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan suggested the logo creation was another important step in the formation of the women’s competition.
“These players are powerful and engaging athletes that have already captured the heart of the nation and will bring us a new and exciting brand of football, inspiring future generations,” McLachlan said.

“With the creation of the AFL ‘W’ we want fans to see and experience the game from a new perspective.
“We have been thrilled by the public and media groundswell to the announcement of AFL Women’s and today’s launch of AFL ‘W’ further cements our commitment to building this premium sporting code where fans can engage and be a part of the action.”
Last week the AFL revealed the new women’s competition would be known as AFL Women’s, with the abbreviation to be AFLW.
Players were consulted widely with regards to the name of the inaugural national women’s league, which will kick off in February 2017.
While marquee players and priority picks have been signed — as well as a handful of rookies — the majority of players will be drafted on October 12.
