AFL trade news 2023: Ben McKay provides North Melbourne contract update to brother Harry

Not even his twin brother, Carlton star Harry, on the podcast they host together, could get Ben McKay to open up on his contract status with North Melbourne.

Carlton superstar Harry McKay has quizzed his twin brother, Ben, about his contract status, asking why he hasn’t yet re-signed at North Melbourne.

Ben McKay is one of the most in-demand free agents in the game with Port Adelaide among the clubs chasing him.

Carlton has also been named as a suitor if Tom De Koning leaves the Blues for a big-money rival offer.

But the star Roos’ defender is adamant he does not want to consider his future yet only five games into the 2023 season.

On the Ben and Harry podcast, Harry McKay asked why his twin brother hadn’t yet put pen to paper on a new deal at North.

“I’m really happy at North, I’m loving it,” Ben said.

“So why don’t you re-sign right now? It’s a genuine question. Is that not a fair question?” Harry asked.

“You said you are loving your time at North, so why not re-sign?”

Ben responded: “There will be a time down the track where I think about that.”

Harry: “Why can’t you do it now?”

Ben: “Because I’m worried about playing footy and playing well and contributing and getting back into some good form.”

Harry: “You need to.”

Ben McKay made his return from a foot injury in North Melbourne’s heavy 75-point loss to Brisbane Lions on Saturday.

Harry McKay kicked two goals in the Blues 56-point loss to Adelaide on Thursday night.
