Michael Voss has swung the axe after Carlton’s loss to Gold Coast, dropping ruckman Tom De Koning among six changes ahead of the Blues’ clash with Port Adelaide.
Voss’ patience has run out with winger Lochie O’Brien, with the left-footer joining Lachie Plowman, Lachie Fogarty and Jordan Boyd as omissions from the side.

Wingmen Jack Newnes and Matthew Cottrell will play their first games of the season, while Marc Pittonet (back) and Corey Durdin (Covid protocols) return to the side.
Port Adelaide will hand a debut to 205cm ruckman Sam Hayes following the long-term loss of Scott Lycett due to a shoulder injury.
Jeremy Finlayson will return for the Power, alongside key inclusions Aliir Aliir and Robbie Gray who were named on Thursday night.
Jed McEntee and Sam Mayes have been dropped, while Lachie Jones has been ruled out through the health and safety protocols.
Darcy Tucker could not force his way back into the Fremantle side to face the Blues, with the 25-year-old unable to dislodge the in-form Nathan O’Driscoll from the Dockers line-up.
Tucker has been named as an emergency alongside the omitted Neil Erasmus and Griffin Logue, with key defender Alex Pearce and gun midfielder Caleb Serong returning for the Dockers.
Covid hits a western star
West Coast has been dealt a blow just as they welcome back a trio of gun midfielders for round 5, losing Jeremy McGovern to the AFL Covid protocols.
Elliot Yeo and Luke Shuey return from injury to play their first games for the season against Sydney on Friday night, while Tim Kelly is back for his second game after a hamstring injury.
Star half-forward Jamie Cripps (pectoral) has also been named to return in a further boost for the Eagles, with Jake Waterman a notable omission after averaging only six disposals in three games.
Port Adelaide fans will be relieved by the earlier than expected return of Aliir Aliir from a syndesmosis injury, with the All-Australian defender named on the field ahead of Sunday’s clash with Carlton at the MCG.
Veteran forward Robbie Gray also returns to the side, but Ollie Wines has been ruled out as he continues to deal with a health issue.
The Blues dropped defender Lachie Plowman, with Luke Parks named on the field to take his place against the Power.
Melbourne premiership defender Harrison Petty has been named for his first game of the season after a successful return through the VFL last week, with Adam Tomlinson making way.
Fremantle has lost in-form forward Lachie Schultz to the health and safety protocols but has bolstered their midfield with the inclusion of Caleb Serong and Darcy Tucker.
Left-footed wingman Finn Callaghan has been named to make his debut by GWS.
The third pick in last year’s draft could be joined by pick 13 Ben Hobbs, with the Bombers naming the midfield bull on their extended bench to face Fremantle on Sunday.
Geelong has welcomed back skipper Joel Selwood and best and fairest Tom Stewart for the Easter Monday clash with Hawthorn, while the Hawks have named experienced trio Chad Wingard, Liam Shiels and Tom Phillips on their extended bench.
Lions blood debutant as Pies make mass changes
Teenager Kai Lohmann will make his AFL debut for the Brisbane Lions on Thursday night after just three games for the club’s VFL team.
Lions coach Chris Fagan revealed on Wednesday that the 18-year-old forward – pick No. 20 in last years’s AFL draft – will be in Brisbane’s 22 for the clash against Collingwood at the Gabba.
Lohmann’s form, which has included nine goals in his three VFL matches, has demanded his inclusion.
“It’s his first year here, but he’s kicked a lot of goals over the last three weeks, his tackle pressure’s fantastic and he’s got a few different attributes that we think in time will give the opposition difficulty,” Fagan said.
“Whether he can do that (on Thursday) night, I’m not sure. It’s always hard in your first game but we’re really pleased to have him out on the field.
“I don’t think he’ll be intimidated.”
Fagan was touched by Ballarat product Lohmann’s reaction when told he would be making his top-flight debut.
“For any young man, playing your first AFL game is a big thing,” the Lions coach said.
“Probably out of all the boys I’ve told over the years, he was probably more emotional than anyone I’ve seen.
“It means a lot to him. Sometimes it’s all about going to kids background and what they’ve gone through to get to this point.
“I know some of his background, but not all of his background. I don’t 100 per cent know why, but I just saw the emotion there. He was so excited.
“I just said ‘go out and play to your strengths’. Hopefully he can be mentally clear enough to do that.”
The return of ruckman Oscar McInerney will be the other change to a Brisbane side keen to bounce back from its first defeat of the season, a narrow loss to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium last Friday night.
“He’s a pretty important player for our side,” Fagan said of McInerney.
As is 2020 Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale, who will make his 200th AFL appearance on Thursday night.
“Lachie’s a great story to all young footballers,” Fagan said.
“He was pick 58 in the national draft … it just shows you don’t have to be a top 10 pick to turn yourself into a great player, and that’s what he’s done.
“He’s very self driven.”
Fagan expects a tough encounter against the Magpies, who have won two from four this season.
“They could easily be on top of the ladder at the moment,” he said.
