AFL round 2: The latest team news from across the competition

You’d forgive Michael Voss for swinging the selection axe hard after round 1, but there’s only one change at the Blues, as the Hawks welcome back two fan favourites for Thursday night footy.

Voss calls on Blues fans after defeat

Carlton has resisted the temptation to wield the axe in the wake of its loss to Richmond, with superstar forward Charlie Curnow the only inclusion against Hawthorn.

Curnow will return for the Thursday night clash in place of omitted Port Adelaide recruit Francis Evans, who could only manage seven disposals, one tackle and a goal in the loss to the Tigers.

The Hawks recalled Jack Gunston after the veteran forward spent the first two games looking on from the coaches’ box, while Changkuoth Jiath was also named to return after a raft of soft tissue injuries derailed his 2024 campaign and pre-season.

Sam Frost made way from the side that beat Essendon last week along with fellow defender Jack Scrimshaw, who is in concussion protocols and serving a three-match suspension.

Blues coach Michael Voss decided to keep his fledgling backline in place, with Lewis Young again named an emergency and GWS recruit Nick Haynes given another chance after a nervy performance on his club debut.

Brodie Kemp was named forward alongside Curnow and Harry McKay, while Jack Silvagni was again listed to play in defence.

“You don’t have to necessarily tell them certain things, but we also have to be able to be big enough to accept that the standards weren’t acceptable (in round 1),” Voss said on Wednesday.

“So we don’t miss that, and then we also don’t miss the reinforcement or the opportunity to be able to look at what actually worked well.”
