AFL round 2 Fremantle v Sydney: Live updates, scores, SuperCoach scores

There is a new ruck king in town, while a Docker returning from injury should be your first trade this week. Here’s what we learned in SuperCoach on super Sunday.

Zorko blows up at Lions teammates

Sydney has stolen victory against Fremantle via a Joel Amartey goal with 90 seconds left to register its first win of 2025, and close out a big day of SuperCoach performances.

Earlier, Brisbane faced an unexpected fight before defeating the Eagles then North Melbourne blasted Melbourne off Marvel Stadium with an eight goal to one final term.

Here’s what we learned for our SuperCoach sides.

1. Xerri is the new ruck king

The two ruck titans of SuperCoach went head-to-head at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, and it wasn’t even close. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin hinted after the game that there was a “back story” to Gawn’s performance, which makes sense as he was soundly beaten by Tristan Xerri, managing just 11 disposals to Xerri’s 20 and 12 clearances. In SuperCoach the scoreline read 136-67.

2. Zorko is ageless

Dayne Zorko turned 36 in February, but don’t try to tell him he needs to slow down, at least when it comes to SuperCoach scoring. He started slowly on Sunday as the Eagles got a surprise jump on Brisbane, and had some tense words with teammates at quarter-time. It must have worked as he racked up 12 disposals in the second term – all of them kicks. He finished with 26 and two handballs, hitting the target with 25 of his 28 touches. He is averaging 137.5 after two rounds and faces Richmond in two weeks. Yikes.

3. NOD is this year’s must-have rookie

And so is Xavier Lindsay and Jack Henderson. All three are set for huge price jumps next week after standout performances on Sunday. Nathan O’Driscoll scored 95 points from 25 disposals and four tackles against Sydney, backing up his 91 points in round 1. If he’s not in your team, make him your first trade when lockout opens. Lindsay (20 disposals) and Henderson (13 and a goal) will both have Break Evens well into the negatives after providing Melbourne with some positives in a big loss to North Melbourne.

4. Lion could be the mid-price defender we all missed

Darcy Wilmot is in 0.5 per cent of SuperCoach teams, but owners of players like Harry Perryman and Jayden Short would be watching his scores with envy. Priced at $449,100, the long-kicking defender has scored 100 and 101 in his two matches and is set for a big price jump after his next game. Against the Eagles he had 17 kicks, six handballs and two tackles, as well as taking three kick-ins. Who’s up for a big POD?

5. Petracca is on DPP watch

Christian Petracca wasn’t alone in looking slow as North Melbourne ran the Demons off their feet at Marvel Stadium. But is a months-long lay-off with a life-threatening injury taking its toll on the Demons champ? He spent time playing out of the goalsquare on Sunday as Melbourne looked for an answer in attack. We have gotten our hopes up before about Petracca being awarded dual-position status only to miss out. This year’s first round of changes will take effect before round 6. Is this year the year?
