AFL Round 14: Key SuperCoach takeaways from West Coast v Carlton, Port Adelaide v Melbourne
Tom McCarthy was playing in Richmond’s VFL team a month ago. One game into his AFL career, he’s already a SuperCoach star. See all the big Sunday takeaways here.
Tom McCarthy has stamped himself as a SuperCoach star one game into his AFL career.
Priced at just $99,100, the top pick in the pre-season draft blitzed his debut game for West Coast, collecting 31 disposals (29 effective) and taking 10 kick-ins to register 133 SuperCoach points. That’s the sixth-best debut score ever recorded by Champion Data.
His price won’t change in SuperCoach until his third game, and the Eagles have the bye this week, so there’s no rush to bring him in.
But coaches will be tempted to trade out a cash cow now, bring in McCarthy and use the cash to make a big move this week.
That move could be to grab Jason Horne-Francis. Many coaches were hoping for a big price drop after his return from injury, but the Port Adelaide star killed off those hopes with a 29-disposal game against Melbourne.
He’s a prime trade target whenever you can get him – but one word of caution: wait for scans on his shoulder this week after he spent most of the final quarter off the ground.
