The AFL Grand Final is locked in – it’s Geelong vs Sydney in what promises to be an epic finale to season 2022.

The Cats have won 15 straight and annihilated Brisbane Lions in Friday’s preliminary final, while Sydney held on in a thriller against Collingwood.

Here is everything you need to know as footy finally returns to the MCG on the last Saturday in September.

What time does the AFL Grand Final start?

The first bounce will be at 2:30pm AEST on Saturday, September 24. The game is expected to finish roughly just after 5pm AEST.

Is there an AFL Grand Final parade?

The grand final parade is back and with a whole new-look.

Crowds will line the banks of the river and Yarra Park outside the MCG in a re-imagined event, featuring a boat parade for the first time, on Friday.

The traditional motorcade through the Footy Festival at the MCG will follow on the eve of the first AFL decider in Melbourne for three years.

What is the AFL Grand Final entertainment?

This year’s grand final entertainment will be headlined by international superstar Robbie Williams, who will perform pre-game.

Aussie rock veterans Goanna will then take to the stage at half-time, alongside of a supergroup of First Nations artists, including Christine Anu, Emma Donovan, Tasman Keith and William Barton.

G Flip, Mike Brady, The Temper Trap featuring Budjerah and Ngaiire, are also a part of a jam-packed homegrown line-up.

“This year’s Telstra Pre-Match and Half-Time Entertainment is shaping up to be one of the greatest Grand Final music spectacles of all time,” AFL executive GM of customer and commercial Kylie Rogers said.

Who is presenting the Norm Smith Medal?

Collingwood great, Nathan Buckley, who won the medal for best afield in a losing side in 2002, will present the Norm Smith at this year’s AFL Grand Final.

What else is on in Melbourne?

The Footy Festival at Yarra Park is on now with family friendly entertainment including giveaways, player signings, kids activities, NAB AFL Auskick clinics, inflatables, food trucks, a licensed bar and live music. It’s free entry.

Friday 23 September, 10.00am – 5.30pm (AEST)

Saturday 24 September, 8.00am – 7.00pm (AEST)

Following the parade on Grand Final eve, a public holiday in Victoria, four AFLW matches will round out a huge day, including a double header – Western Bulldogs v Kangaroos (12.40pm) and Sydney v Hawthorn (5.10pm) – at nearby Punt Road Oval.

Collingwood will also host Essendon at Olympic Park oval at 3.10pm, while the Blues will do battle with Melbourne at Ikon Park from 7.30pm.

While details of who will be a part of the annual event, the Longest Kick to be shown live on Kayo from 11.00am (AEST) on grand final day.

How to watch, live stream

The 2022 AFL Grand Final will be broadcast live on Channel Seven and 7Plus, and you can stream it on Kayo after the game.
