AFL prospects Callum Ah Chee and Matthew Kennedy await their draft day with contrasting levels of uncertainty and anxiety.

Kennedy has long been destined to join the GWS Giants and is set to be one of the first players selected via the new bidding system.

Ah Chee’s draft stocks have risen and fallen with his form this season and the West Aussie could be claimed by any one of up to ten clubs.

Despite this, it’s Ah Chee presenting an ice-cool demeanour, while Kennedy is chewing his fingernails.

“I’m pretty nervous to be honest, even though people think I am going to go to the Giants but I honestly don’t know,” Kennedy said.

“It’s scary — good nerves and bad nerves I guess.

“I’m excited but nervous at the same time.”

The Wagga Wagga product is expected to attract a bid from a rival club inside the first round, but the Giants have given him no indication of whether they will match.

“I’m just like the other blokes, I’m pretty nervous and not sure where I’m going to be living for the next two years of my life playing footy,” he said.

“I’m hoping just to get on a list and get stuck into preseason.”

Despite his ties the Giants academy, 10 clubs have interviewed Kennedy in the lead up to Tuesday’s draft and one of them is likely to place a bid into the first 10 picks.

However, with the Giants holding pick 10 and a fist full of mid range selections they should have sufficient points to secure Kennedy plus fellow academy prospect Jacob Hopper, regardless.

There’s few things Ah Chee can be certain of, but one is that he’ll be packing his bags and moving interstate to follow his AFL dream.

The creative half forward is unlikely to be available when West Coast and Fremantle pick in the 20s and he won’t be joining brother Brendon at Port Adelaide either.

“It’s actually pretty exciting having the feel of uncertainty and not knowing where you’re going to go. There’s no guarantees in the draft and who knows If I get picked up? It’s exciting and I’m enjoying it,” Ah Chee said.

Ah Chee looked a likely top 10 selection earlier in the season, but his form in the national championships was patchy and his testing at the AFL combine wasn’t as strong as he’d hoped.

Despite this, he’s been linked to Gold Coast with pick No. 7, while, Carlton, Adelaide and Richmond are also likely suitors and among 15 clubs that have interviewed him.

Interestingly, the Suns are not one of the delegations that visited him at home in recent weeks.

THE AFL DRAFT WILL BE BROADCAST LIVE ON FOX FOOTY (AND 503) FROM 6.30 AEDST ON TUESDAY
