As part of next year’s Magic Round the AFL should throw in a magic game where all broadcasting deals are torn up for a day with the best of the best getting to deliver a game together.

Finding the right play-by-play commentators and then complimenting them with the perfect special comments pairing would be an exciting challenge.

Fortunately for SEN listeners they have been privileged to have two of the best commentators calling games for them in recent years with Anthony Hudson and Gerard Whateley regularly sitting alongside each other.

Selecting the special comments team is bringing two icons together who have previously worked together but have gone on different paths in recent times.

Jason Dunstall and Garry Lyon have good synergy with their banter between each other highly amusing given they both like to be the top dog. The result is top shelf analysis and high entertainment.

The boundary rider in the dream team has to be Matthew Richardson given his experience in the special comments seat. Being able to add expertise from the boundary to compliment the other experts is the key.

WHO IS THE BEST AFL SPECIAL COMMENTS EXPERT?

They’re the special sauce, the ones who take the listeners and viewers behind-the-scenes.

The ability to explain the modern game in the simplest terms is what sets apart those who sit in the special comments chair.

Some are naturals, some nail it every single time while some are still a work in progress.

Trimming down a list of the best special comments people in TV and radio to just 15 is like trying to tackle Dusty Martin. Scott Gullan had a crack it.
