Luckless recruit Jesse Hogan has suffered another injury blow with Giants coach Leon Cameron confirming he will miss up to six weeks with a calf injury.

Cameron said Hogan was assessed after pulling up sore from training with the diagnosis revealing he will spend the next 4-6 weeks on the sidelines.

“We obviously feel for Jesse who’s been good for us in the two games he’s played but hasn’t been able to get a clear run at it,” Cameron said.

“Unfortunately on this occasion he pulled up sore from training and upon further investigation on Friday we received some bad news that he’s set to miss 4-6 weeks of footy.

Collingwood will be bolstered by star on-baller Taylor Adams and key defender Jordan Roughead for its clash with Port Adelaide at the MCG, axing trio Oliver Henry, Jack Madgen and Mark Keane.

The Power lose Orazio Fantasia and Tom Clurey to injury but regain defenders Dan Houston and Lachie Jones, who have both recovered from setbacks, while Trent McKenzie wil play his first senior game of the season.

Promising youngsters Miles Bergman and Martin Frederick have been dropped.

Essendon mature-age recruit Alec Waterman has been promoted after 25 disposals in the VFL last week and is set to pinch-hit in the midfield with Jake Stringer and Devon Smith both out with injury.

North Melbourne has made no changes following its surprise win against Hawthorn, with last week’s medical sub Will Phillips named as an emergency.

Hogan is among six outs for the Giants, including injuries to Toby Greene and Harry Perryman, while the Giants regain Nick Haynes, Shane Mumford and Jeremy Finlayson.

Hogan’s first season with his third AFL club was delayed by a quad issue, making his Giants debut with a four goal haul against Adelaide in Round 7.

He was struck down by a calf complaint after that impressive performance.

The 26-year-old was pivotal in his return from injury in the Giants’ loss to Richmond last week, kicking another four majors and finishing with 16 disposals, before his latest setback.

Hogan has been plagued by injury since being traded from Melbourne at the end of 2018, managing 19 games in two seasons for Fremantle along with two for the Giants.

BIG-NAME RECRUIT DUMPED, ADAMS RETURNS

Melbourne has dumped big-name recruit Ben Brown after only three games with his new club as the unbeaten Demons look to extend their 2021 winning streak into double figures.

The ladder leaders had to make a hard call on one of their big forwards, with impressive youngster Luke Jackson cleared to return from finger surgery for Saturday’s clash with Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

It came down to a choice between Brown and Sam Weideman — who both went goalless against Carlton last week — with coach Simon Goodwin opting for the latter.

Brown, 28, had a difficult pre-season, as he had to overcome a knee issue, and was overlooked in some early games before making his debut in red and blue against his old side North Melbourne in his native Tasmania in Round 7.

He booted five goals in his three games this year, but will now have to work his way back to form in the VFL.

Collingwood caused a minor selection shock by naming vice-captain Taylor Adams for the MCG clash with Port Adelaide on Sunday, his return from his knee injury coming ahead of schedule in a boost for the struggling Magpies.

Jordan Roughead and Nathan Murphy proved their fitness after missing with concussion.

Richmond has named an unchanged side for Friday night’s Gabba clash with Brisbane, apart from Rhyan Mansell being an omission from last week’s 23.

Brisbane has lost defenders Darcy Gardiner and Ryan Lester to injury for the clash with the Tigers.

St Kilda will welcome back co-captain Jarryn Geary for his first AFL game of the season when the Saints take on the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Shaun McKernan has also been included for the clash, with Rowan Marshall sidelined, while Tom Highmore and Ben Long have been dropped.

Lachie Hunter returns for the Bulldogs, while Easton Wood and Pat Lipinski are out injured.

Tim English remains sidelined due to the effects of his concussion suffered in Round 6.

Port Adelaide’s leading goalkicker from the first nine rounds, Orazio Fantasia, will join Tom Clurey on the sidelines for the clash with the Magpies.

But, while Clurey’s broken jaw will see put him out for six weeks, the Power is hopeful Fantasia — who has booted 17.17 from nine games — won’t be sidelined for long with a minor leg issue.

They have regained Dan Houston from a shoulder injury and have named Lachie Jones in the squad after he overcame his syndesmosis injury earlier than expected.

Adelaide has made four changes for their clash with the Demons, with Taylor Walker a welcome return after he was managed last week.

Geelong has included Luke Dahlhaus and Jake Kolodjashnij, but has dropped Jordan Clark, Zach Guthrie and Max Holmes.

Ned Reeves will make club history by becoming the tallest-ever Hawthorn player (211cm) against Carlton on Saturday.

Luckless Blue Jack Silvagni returns from injury, while Carlton has managed Levi Casboult.
