The Adelaide Crows have crashed to the third longest losing streak in the history of the AFL after another night of misery at the Adelaide Oval.

The alarm bells are well and truly ringing that the club could go winless for the entire season after a 51-point mauling at the hands of the Demons took their season to 0-10.

Coach Matthew Nicks is yet to win a game and the club has now gone 367 days since its last win in Round 20, 2019, when they downed St Kilda on August 3.

With the Crows next facing Collingwood on August 11, the losing streak will extend to at least 373 days.

Based on the Crows’ second half capitulation, it will go much longer.

Trailing by just five points at the half time break, the Crows kicked just one more goal after the 19-minute mark of the second term.

The Demons kicked eight goals to one in the second half to runaway with a 13.10 (88) to 5.7 (37) win.

It sees the Crows replace the Dockers’ side of the 2000 AFL season on the podium of the sorriest losers of the modern era.

At 0-10 (on a 13 game losing streak) — the Crows are officially out of the 2020 Finals in a 17-game season.

The Dockers were officially third on the list of the biggest losing streaks of the modern era after failing to win from April 14, 2019 to June 13, 2020.

Frighteningly, the Swans’ all-time record losing streak where the club went winless from May 8, 1992 to June 27, 1993, (415 days) is now under threat.

The Crows in 2020 are on track to be the biggest embarrassments the game has seen since the GWS Giants won just one game in 2013.

The Crows played in a grand final in 2017.

They have fallen apart ever since.

Despite Nicks’ woeful start to his coaching tenure, Fox Footy commentators Eddie McGuire and David King both defended the Crows’ decision to stick with him.

“From an Adelaide point of view, I know Matthew Nicks is going to start 0-10, but (Richmond coach) Damien Hardwick started 0-9,” he said.

“I think we need to cool the jets on the feedback there.

“This is a 50-game re-set, isn’t it. It’s going to take some time. They’re down on talent.

“This is the bottom after a four or five-year shot at a flag.”

McGuire said of Nicks: “He’s at a re-building club. They’re a re-building side the Adelaide Crows.

“They have to rebuild not only their team and their set-up, but also their psyche. It’s a big job. It’s not going to happen in the first couple of months.”
