Suns chief executive Mark Evans expects the AFL club to break more attendance records with a 2025 fixture list stacked with blockbuster home games against powerhouse clubs.
“We’ve seen a draft which is still subject to change but it does look like there’s some blockbuster games on the Coast,” Evans said ahead of Thursday’s fixture release.
“Essendon in Opening Round, we always have Brisbane in the QClash, historically we’ve had Collingwood in the mid-year school holiday period and there are another couple of big games still to come.
“It’s a really exciting fixture and if we do our bit on the field I think we’ll break some records.”
The Suns achieved a record four sellout games last year, a momentous achievement given they had never had more than one sellout in their previous 13 seasons.
Evans expects at least five sold out games to be on the cards in 2025.
“They only announce the timeslots for the first 15 rounds, and there was a bit of a spread, there’s Saturday twilight, Saturday day, (and) Sunday day, in our home games at People First Stadium.
“We’ve still got four or five home games in the section of fixture that (won’t be) released.”
It has been revealed that there will be 23 Thursday night fixtures in 2025, with the Suns set to play in one of those when they host Hawthorn at TIO Stadium in Darwin in round 10.
The Opening Round and gather round fixtures have already been revealed in anticipation for the full unveiling of the fixture on Thursday.
Gold Coast will host Essendon in Opening Round at 4.15pm (AEST) on Saturday, March 8, and travel to the Barossa Valley to take on North Melbourne in Gather Round on Saturday, April 12 at 12.05pm local time.
“We played at Mt Barker last year and it was a terrific venue,” Evans said.
“We’re looking forward to going to the Barossa.”
