ONCE the domain of proper society’s newest recruits, Wynnum’s old finishing school is now a beautiful family home on the market.
Five-bedroom, four-bathroom Moreton House has had a rich history since being built in the 1920s for a retired sea captain and his family.
Place Bulimba marketing agent Cathy Richards said it became the finishing school for nearby Moreton Bay College in the 1960s.
“They came to this house as a finishing school to learn deportment and to be ladies,” she said.
The home has since been refurbished to resemble a more traditional house layout, with smaller rooms opened up or repurposed as dressing rooms and ensuites.
“There is a granny flat added on that is fully self-contained and a sauna as well,” Ms Richards said.
“All of the bedrooms have got views of the bay.
“There are working fireplaces upstairs in the bedroom and the living (area).”
She said the home had been previously owned by a pair of chefs so now featured a commercial grade kitchen.
It also has multiple living areas plus a pool and five garage spaces.
The home sits on a 3588sq m block.
Ms Richards said there had been “very strong interest” in the property at 101 Petersen St, Wynnum.
“We’ve had huge numbers through from all over Brisbane and international inquiries as well,” she said.
“The demand for something like that is great.
“You’re looking at a piece of land close to the city but with the joys of having a bay view and huge spaces.”
