Zillmere woman chased ex through home, off balcony, then clung to bonnet as he drove away

The woman sobbed as she told the Magistrate she did not believe she deserved any punishment for assaulting her former partner.

Australia's domestic violence crisis

A young Zillmere woman pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order by jumping on the hood of her boyfriend’s car and clinging to it as he attempted to drive away, Sandgate Magistrates Court heard today.

The tearful woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, wandered in and out of Sandgate Magistrates Court today while loudly playing Cardi B’s song, WAP, through her phone speakers.

The woman told Magistrate Jennifer Batts she didn’t want to be there, didn’t want to come back and didn’t believe what she had done should be considered an offence, prompting Ms Batts to stand down her case three separate times.

The police prosecutor alleged that on June 17 the woman was arguing with her boyfriend about texting another woman when the fight turned physical at his Zillmere residence.

“She slapped him repeatedly, took his phone and told (him) not to leave,” the prosecutor said.

The man pushed over a couch and jumped off the balcony in order to get to his car and escape.

When the man attempted to drive off, the woman jumped onto the bonnet and yelled at him to go back inside so they could talk about the issue further, claiming he couldn’t leave as she still had possession of his phone.

The man drove away, with the woman still clinging to the car, and she eventually let go.

Upon the man’s return, the woman used his phone to smash in the car window, continuing to hit it well after the glass had smashed, drawing the attention of several neighbours many of whom called the police.

The woman was put on a $500 good behaviour bond for nine months and no conviction was recorded.
