CRAIGSLEA State High School student Alanah Kennedy has been selected to perform in France on Anzac Day as a member of the 2019 Voices of Birralee Anzac Commemoration Choir.

Alanah said the tour is importance to her as she reflects on the fond memories she has of her grandfather who served in World War II.

“I am honoured to be selected to perform at the Australian National Memorial in (Villers-Bretonneux in) France,” Alanah said.

“It means so much to me to represent my country for such a significant occasion.

“I never thought I’d visit and sing at such an amazing venue at the age of 17.

“This tour means a lot to me, especially because my grandfather fought in World War II.

“He returned home completely scarred and broken and would never talk to my dad about his experiences as it hurt him too much to say.

“Nevertheless, he was one of the most positive and most joyful people I knew.”

Alanah said although her grandfather passed away when she was a young girl, she still has fond memories of him and remembers stories her dad would tell her about him.

“This tour reminds me of him and as I sing at the Anzac Day service I will be singing for him and all those who fought beside him.

“I hope to make him proud up in heaven.”

“We are all very proud of Alanah,” Mr Farwell said.

“She is the perfect ambassador to represent Craigslea, Brisbane and Australia on this significant occasion.

“Her dedication to excellence as a chorister is an inspiration to other students and I am sure that the tour will prove an unforgettable experience.”

Alanah will also perform at the Lighting of the Flame Ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and will venture across five countries, performing at the ‘We are singing Adriatic Festival’ in Opatija, Croatia and at a Mayoral Civic Reception in Graz, Austria.
