Controversial treatments such as stem cell therapy could feature at a proposed “world-class” wellness centre in the Gasworks.
Plans for the new wellness and fitness centre in Newstead have been lodged to Brisbane City Council for approval.
The proposed development, headed by Brisbane property developer Cavcorp, will be part of the Long Island project at Longland St.
According to layout plans, the multistorey building will house multiple treatment rooms that includes “cryotherapy, red light therapy, magnetic therapy and stem cell therapy” along the ground floor with doctors offices.
Two levels will comprise a fitness centre with “altitude and hypoxic training rooms”.
The rooftop includes plans for a 25m swimming pool, magnesium spas, yoga pavilions and “float tanks”.
“The proposed building provides an innovative health and wellness experience through the co-location of a diverse range of Olympic-endorsed equipment and facilities and evidence-based complementary and allied health therapies,” the documents read.
Considered an alternative treatment, red light therapy has been linked to improved skin health and eyesight but is also considered controversial due to the lack of medical research into some of its benefits.
An additional piazza with “gardens, lawns and mature flowering trees” is also planned for construction.
The new development comes days after a fashionable Thai restaurant was announced for the Gasworks precinct.
Brisbane restaurateur Yanni Passaris is expected to open the new joint on August 6.
