Where the next major Brisbane school hall could be built

It would be one of the biggest state high school halls in Brisbane. And it will be built in this well-regarded westside high school, the LNP promises.

Kenmore State High School will get a new $4 million school hall — if the LNP wins the next state election on October 31.

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington made the announcement during a visit to Kenmore with LNP State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan

“Kenmore State High is a fantastic school, but its facilities need a major investment,” Ms Frecklington said.

“An LNP Government will give this great school community a new hall – a place where all of its students and teachers can come together under one roof.

“The LNP is committed to raising standards in education and that means providing students and teachers with the buildings and spaces they need.’’

KSHS was founded in 1972 and its existing school hall is unable to accommodate all of its 1994 students.

Total enrolments are forecast to reach 2130 in 2024, worsening the current overcrowding.

Government splurges more than $300m on new schools

“The school has to duplicate many of its events and ceremonies each year, including their annual ANZAC DAY commemorations, because the entire student cohort cannot squeeze into the existing school hall at the same time,’’ Dr Rowan said.

“The LNP will ensure that in future, students will have a space where they can all commemorate the past and celebrate the present.”

KSHS P&C President Kerry Schreiber said the students were very proud of their school, but it needed extra funding to cope with the growth it has experienced in recent years.

The school Council chairman, Trevor Dixon, said a new hall would be a welcome addition.

“It would be a great place for students, teachers and parents to come together,” he said.

Dr Rowan also called on the State Government to match the LNP’s commitment.
