VOTERS decided at the weekend to keep the LNP in power at Brisbane City Hall and elect Adrian Schrinner to the mayoralty in his own right. But what does that mean for you?
Neighbourhood parks, road and intersection upgrades, to free yellow-top bins, small business sweeteners and school safety upgrades.
Here are some of the Team Schrinner promises you can expect in the next four years.
INNER NORTH AND NORTHSIDE
PARKS AND GREEN SPACE
- $65k for a new dog park at Ure St, Hendra
- $44k to refurbish the dog park at Arbor Street Park, Ferny Grove
- Mulbeam Park, Boondall, will get a $74k refurbishment of its dog park
- $44k to refurbish the Teralba Park, Everton Park, dog park
- A $6M nature play area and youth activity areas for Bradbury Park, Kedron/Chermside
- $5M for youth play facilities for all ages, including a BMX track across Grinstead Park, Shand Street Park and Corbett Park at Alderley/Stafford/Enoggera
- Nudgee Waterholes will get $500,000 to upgrade the surrounding parkland to help maintain the local historical connection of the area to the Indigenous community
- $500,000 to consult the community and develop a plan to develop the Brighton Foreshore
- There’s $30M for a new synthetic hockey atop a multi-level carpark at Downey Park, Windsor
- Nudgee Recreation Reserve will get $35M to develop it into a district sports park for touch football, cricket and soccer fields, clubhouse, parking and recreation space
- There’s $250,000 for a signature playground at Gus Davies Park, Bald Hills, and $500,000 for another signature playground at Fallon Park, Everton Park
- A share in $9.1M for more street trees and plants in Algester, Bowen Hills, Fortitude Valley, Kelvin Grove, Manly West, Mitchelton, Milton, Petrie Terrace, Riverhills
SHOPPING PRECINCTS
- A share in $32M to improve the shopping strip at Sandgate Road/Beams Road, Boondall, under the Village Precinct Projects project
- There will be decorative lighting installed at the shopping area at Sandgate Rd, Nundah, under the City of Lights program
ROADS AND INTERSECTIONS
- $5M roundabout at Hows Road and Melton Road, Nundah
- $3.8M upgrade to the intersection at Kelvin Grove Road and Blamey Street, Kelvin Grove
- $10M upgrade to the intersection at Enoggera Road/Moran Street/Lloyd St, Alderley
- Intersection upgrade at Barbour Road and Norris Road to improve safety and traffic flow
- Increase Hoyland St, Bald Hills, from two to four lanes
- Upgrade priority sections along Norris Road, Bracken Ridge
- Upgrade to Beams Rd between Lacey Roadand Handford Rd. Plus the LNP promised $40M towards the State’s open level crossing removal
- $4M to install traffic lights at the entrance to Prince Charles Hospital at Hamilton Road, Chermside in partnership with the State Government
- Upgrade intersection at Commercial Rd and Doggett St, Newstead
- Install missing links, widen footpaths and make the journey safer for older citizens in Taigum as part of Move Safe pedestrian upgrades
INNER SOUTH AND SOUTHSIDE
SHOPPING PRECINCTS
- A share of $32 million to upgrade Aminya St, Mansfield, and Lumley St, Upper Mount Gravatt, under its Village Precincts Projects program
- The LNP promised a $30,000 local business partnership with traders at Mt Gravatt Central to help the struggling high street
- Mowbray Park, East Brisbane, will have decorative lighting installed under the City of Lights program
PARKS AND GREEN SPACE
- $14M for a new sports field, clubhouse and parking for cricket at Wally Tate Park, Kuraby
- $500,000 for Heathwood District Park for upgrades to facilities
- A$750,000 ‘signature playground’ Major Drive Park, Rochedale
- Summit Street Park, Belmont was promised a $90k dog park
- A share in $9.1M for more street trees and plants in Algester
- $24k to the refurbish the dog park Woolloongabba Rotary Park, East Brisbane
- Major Drive Park, Rochedale, will get a new $750,000 playground
- A share in $9.1M for more street trees and plants in Algester
ROADS AND INTERSECTION UPGRADES
- $6.5M to upgrade the intersection of River Tce and Main St, Kangaroo Point
- $11M to install lights and upgrade intersection at Montague Rd and Victoria St, West End
- Upgrade intersection of Newnham Rd and Wecker Rd, Mount Gravatt
- Upgrade intersection of Rochedale Rd and Priestdale Rd, Rochedale
- $40M towards the State Government Boundary Road, Coopers Plains rail crossing upgrade
- Deliver drop-off zone improvements at Kuraby State School (priority for the joint State Government SafeST travel program)
EASTERN & BAYSIDE SUBURBS
PARKS AND GREEN SPACE
- $90k for a new dog park at Joe Bradfield Centre Park, Carina
- $90k to extend the Sheriff Park, Wakerley, to add a small dog off-leash area
- The dog park at Elanora Park, Wynnum, was promised $74k for a refurbishment
- $58k to refurbish the dog park at Perth Street Park, Camp Hill
- There’s $100k to refurbish the dog park at Whites Hill Reserve, Camp Hill
- $6 million for a new cycling park with BMX pump track, learn to ride facility, as well as upgrades to the Murarrie Criterium track at Murarrie Recreation Reserve
- The Colmslie Beach Reserve will get $2M for a beach-themed play area, including water play elements
- Keralgerie Park, Morningside, will get a $200,000 playground
- A share in $9.1M for more street trees and plants in Algester, Bowen Hills, Fortitude Valley, Kelvin Grove, Manly West, Mitchelton, Milton, Petrie Terrace, Riverhills
SHOPPING PRECINCTS
- A share in $32 million to improve the shopping strips at Martha St, Camp Hill, as well as Coorparoo Junction at Old Cleveland Rd, Coorparoo and Manly Harbour Village, Manly under the Village Precinct Projects program
- Oxford St, Bulimba, will have new decorative lighting under the City of Lights program
ROADS AND INTERSECTION
- Upgrade intersection of Chelsea Rd and Rickertt Rd, Ransome
- $40 towards the State Government Lindum rail crossing upgrade, Wynnum West
- Widen footpaths at Mayfield State School at Carina (priority project for the joint State Government SafeST travel program)
- Footpath improvements at Cannon Hill State School (priority project for the joint State Government SafeST travel program)
WESTSIDE AND SOUTHWEST
ON PARKS AND GREEN SPACE
- $70k to extend the dog park at Jindalee Boat Ramp Park
- $70k for the Loffs Road, Westlake, dog park to add a small dog off-leash area
- The dog park at Ducie Street Park, Darra, will get a $32k for a refurbishment
- There’s $48k for a refurbishment of the dog park at Neal Macrossan Park, Paddington
- $32k to do up the Sir John Chandler Park, Indooroopilly
- A masterplan for Anstead Bushland Reserve
- Thrush Street Park will get a new $1M playground
- A share in $9.1M for more street trees and plants in Kelvin Grove, Milton, Petrie Terrace, Riverhills
SHOPPING PRECINCTS
- A share in $32M for Rosalie Village (at Nash Street and Baroona Road), Park Road, Milton the shopping strips at Given and Latrobe Terraces, Paddington and Waterworks Road, Ashgrove West Shops under the Village Precinct Projects program
ROADS AND INTERSECTIONS
- $5.5M to install lights at intersection of Monier Rd and Bellwood St, Darra
- $7M to install lights at Fig Tree Pocket Rd and Kenmore Road, Fig Tree Pocket
RATEPAYERS & RESIDENTS
WASTE, ENVIRONMENT AND RECYCLING
- Waive $30 fee for yellow-top recycle bin from July 1, 2020
- Every property, including owner-occupier and tenanted houses, townhouses and units, to receive 10 free waste vouchers to dispose of up to 100kg of waste at the council’s dumps (to be mailed to residents)
- Every household eligible for a free compost starter kit or worm farm to divert organic waste (like food scraps) from landfill
- Provide free native plants for every resident, regardless of the type of home they live in, available from Environment centres.
STUDENTS AND SENIORS
- $2.8 million to install up to 100 permanent Slow for Sam signs at schools
- $6.4 million for safer paths to schools
- $1.8 million towards the joint State and Council SafeST travel program, to cover 50 per cent of the cost for safety improvements for children commuting to school
- $1.6 million for a new Move Safe initiative for seniors, including new footpath and safety improvements near retirement villages and community and shopping centres
SMALL BUSINESS
- Slash payment terms for small business contractors from 30 days to seven days, within the first weeks of April
- $6.6 million to expand real-time webchat service between Contact Centre consultants and small businesses
- Waive permit fees for events and festivals in suburban shopping areas to encourage more people to buy local
