It’s just three little words but 11-year-old Anjelica Perumal’s message “Pizza & Love” is putting smiles on strangers’ faces across the city.
From her family’s business in Fortitude Valley, Boroughs of New York Wood-fire Pizza, Anjelica has been harnessing her creativity into messages of gratitude and kindness.
“Thank you for supporting us through these tough times. Hope you enjoy!” Anjelica wrote inside one box.
In the other boxes are smiley faces and the consistent message “Pizza & Love” and “Have a Nice Day”.

And while doing her school work at the restaurant is now the norm and Anjelica and her brothers are coming to terms with their cancelled family overseas trip that was planned for later this year, she was quick to try and find a positive to connect with the customers who would normally fill the busy pizza restaurant.
“It is very different not being able to go to school or only seeing my friends through my iPad and it also feels strange when my brothers and I ask for something quite common such as going to our cousins house and not doing so due to social distancing and self isolation,” Anjelica said.
“But it is really fun to help out in the restaurant and even though I don’t have the neatest handwriting I really like writing small thank you notes in the pizza boxes they get with their yummy pizza.”
“I really like that the customers like the thank you notes and seeing their photos and appreciation on Instagram.”
Parents, Jini and Nilhan Perumal said their daughter had quickly decided writing the messages to customers was her way of connecting with the world at this time.
“The response has been amazing. So many customers have called in and complimented us on the messages of thanks and we have had customers post photos of the box on Instagram and Facebook,” Mr Perumal said.
