A disqualified drug driver whom police allege hit a police officer while riding a modified scooter at 45km/h has been granted bail, but told “no more scooters for you”.

In a video supplied by police media a man on an electric scooter can be seen travelling at speed towards an officer while holding shopping bags.

As the officer steps out to slow the scooter rider he is struck and falls to the ground. In the video the e-scooter rider can be seen looking back before continuing on his way.

Appearing at Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday Triston Roy Davidson, 40, of Birkdale faced a string of charges.

They included dangerous operation of a vehicle, serious assault of police and failing to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash, among others.

Defence solicitor Sacha Mackness said her client would be contesting the charges in what was a matter of alleged mistaken identity.

Police will allege Davidson was riding a modified electric scooter on Monday in Birkdale when he collided with a police officer during an attempted intercept.

The officer is alleged to have been struck with grocery bags carried by Davidson while speeding “way too fast” on the device.

The court heard e-scooters were currently speed limited to 26km/h in Queensland.

Following the collision, the defendant called police and reported that an unknown person had robbed him of his groceries while riding his e-scooter.

Police confirmed the scooter had since been seized.

Ms Mackness said her client would contest the “speed and circumstances” alleged by police.

Davidson had turned his head at the very moment the officer had attempted to flag him down, according to the defence, and had seen only “blue” clothing.

Davidson had been riding the e-scooter after he was sentenced to a six-month prison sentence suspended over two years at Wynnum Magistrates Court for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta noted Davidson had previously failed to appear at court but granted him bail on condition that he not ride any scooters.

“No more scooters for you,” Ms Vasta said.

Davidson won little sympathy when he complained it would deny him his mode of transport.

“If you don’t want to comply, you can just stay in custody,” Ms Vasta said.

Davidson was released on bail and is next scheduled to appear at court on March 26.
