Tenders have been released for the first stage of a major overhaul of the road and rail network in the Carseldine precinct.
TENDERS have been released for the first stage of a major overhaul of the road and rail network in the Carseldine precinct.
After complaints from locals about the need for more parking around the station, a $15 million project to deliver another 170 car parks near the Carseldine Station will go ahead.
The new park ‘n’ ride project will be built east of Carseldine Station near Lavender Pl.
Aspley MP Bart Mellish said there wasn’t enough parking near the area, resulting in people illegally parking and creating dangerous situations.
“We want more people catching the train because that means less cars on local roads,” Mr Mellish said.
“If we want to encourage that, then we need to provide the facilities that makes that an easy choice for them.”
The construction of the new park ‘n’ ride is expected to start before the end of the year and support 10 jobs.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the Carseldine project is part of a broader government plan to deliver another 3000 new park ‘n’ ride spaces, adding to more than 31,500 spaces across the network.
“Our growing region depends on a reliable investment in new and improved public transport,” Mr Bailey said.
