A former Logan resident who was caught with a knife in public three times in a month has explained she used the tool to cut mangoes.

Storm Hutana, 30, formerly of Logan Central but now of Eight Mile Plains, pleaded guilty to a string of offences between September 2017 and December 2019, including three counts of possessing a knife in a public place and one count each of stealing, drug driving and possessing a dangerous drug.

The court heard Hutana’s three possessions of a knife occurred on November 9, December 6 and December 12 last year.

She was busted twice at Logan Central Plaza in possession of the knife, while the third occasion was at Fitzgerald Ave, Springwood.

The drug possession and drug driving occurred on February 26 last year at Ewing Rd, Underwood, where she was found to have cannabis and methylamphetamine in her system, as well as possessing a quantity of cannabis in the car.

The stealing occurred on September 13, 2017 at City Beach Helensvale, where she stole a number of clothing items.

Defence lawyer Bruce Affleck told the court the knife his client possessed on all occasions could be best described as a “paring knife”, and she told police at Logan Central Plaza she was on her way to Woolworths to buy a mango to eat.

“She has since changed her ways and now uses a metal spoon,” he said.

The court heard Hutana was currently employed by Strategix Training Group at Loganholme and aspired to be a successful business person like her father, who owns and operates his own concreting business.

She was placed on probation for one year. Convictions were recorded.
