A man has been sentenced after a 10-year-old girl’s stepfather found the man filming her in the shower.
Ryan George Davey, 32, faced Ipswich District Court today, September 4, on two charges but was sentenced only on one.
Davey plead guilty to indecent treatment of a child under 12 (take photograph).
The other charge, one count of possessing child exploitation material, was recorded but he was not sentenced.
The court heard trhat, last year, the girl was taking a shower when Davey slipped his mobile phone under the closed door and filmed her washing her legs.
The court heard that when the girl’s stepfather caught Davey he yelled at him to delete the video and punched him to the ground before police arrived and arrested Davey.
Davey told the stepfather he had “f***ed up”, the court was told.
Davey had also instructed his counsel that he was remorseful.
Judge Alexander Horneman-Wren said the victim impact statement from the girl’s parents made it clear they were distressed.
Judge Horneman-Wren said Davey was “caught red-handed” during the incident.
The court heard Davey, who had a certificate III in transport logistics and a good work history, had a limited criminal history with some minor drug offending.
He had already spent three-and-a-half months in prison and was given a suspended sentence for 12 months.
