OPINION: Maha Sinnathamby on the city’s achievements so far
In his second column, Springfield visionary Maha Sinnathamby reflects on some of the city’s greatest achievements to date.

IN 2010, Springfield was awarded the World’s Best Masterplanned Community by the International Real Estate Federation.
In 2018, the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull recognised Greater Springfield as a nation-building project and a project of national significance.
Most recently, Greater Springfield was acknowledged by the Urban Development Institute of Australia as the most significant and outstanding urban development project in Queensland over the past 25 years.
Now in its 27th year, Greater Springfield remains committed to its founding vision to deliver Australia’s newest city founded on the pillars of health, education and IT.
At the very outset, the land mass had the opportunity to make transformational changes to the region in every possible way.
Well-positioned to support future growth, Greater Springfield enjoys north, south, east and west connectivity as the existing urban centres reach capacity.
Greater Springfield has enabled a generation of “first in family” tertiary graduates through the provision of diverse and exceptional school offerings, and TAFE college and a university.
In health, we pride ourselves on being a caring community which will, on completion provide for every form of human health need in the one spot as well as creating a workforce of 19,000.
In the area of IT, Greater Springfield is an emerging Smart City leading with our own dark fibre network and Polaris Data Centre.
Our planned IDEA City will further progress the principles of innovation, design, entrepreneurship and the arts – watch this space.
Whilst these awards of recognition are valued tremendously by Springfield City Group, they provide little distraction to our team in delivering Australia’s newest city.
We will continue to work to tirelessly to pursue our vision and deliver a world class city that uplifts the human and social capital of a region and leaves an indelible footprint for future generations of Queenslanders.
