News Corp livestreaming of bumper Australian Water Polo League action continues on Saturday with a Thunder-Drummoyne double header - but a third game has also been added to our coverage.
The Brisbane Tritons, Queensland’s first and only LGBTIQA+ -inclusive water polo club, will play a Pride match at the Valley Pool at 4.45pm - ahead of the two AWL encounters.
Founded in late 2015 with the assistance of the Brisbane Barracudas, Sydney Stingers and Melbourne Surge, the Tritons have grown from 14 to over 90 members. Several teams were also entered into the Brisbane competitions each year.

President Ash Monaghan said the community was proud of the club’s growth.
“Given the pressures over the last couple of years, we have still managed to maintain an active and engaged member base. For the first time this season we have also been able to enter a team in the Brisbane Water Polo women’s competition,’’ Monaghan said.
“The original purpose of the Brisbane Tritons was to create a safe and inclusive space for members for the LGBTIQ+ community to meet others outside of the usual venues,’’ Monaghan said.
“A club like the Tritons is not just about physical fitness, it is also a place where the mental wellbeing of our members is always at the forefront.’’
Monaghan said there had also been an increase in members who had come from outside the LGBTIQ+ community after hearing “about the club and the safe and inclusive environment we have created’’.
Monaghan said on a personal note, joining the Tritons was “honestly the best decision that I have made in my adult life’’.
“While I was hesitant to join the club to begin with, as soon as I joined I found that any preconceived ideas I had about the club and its members were quickly put to rest.
“Since joining the club I have met people who will be lifelong friends and it has been great to have a network of like minded people around to support each other through the tough times that we have gone through over the last few years.
“Water polo is an incredibly challenging sport both physically and mentally. I had not played before joining the club, but quickly found my niche in goals, a position that suits my personality.’’
Monaghan said players aged from 18 years with no prior experience in water polo were welcome. Email brisbanetritons@gmail.com
