Tigers dominate colts rugby Team of the Week

Tigers dominate colts rugby Team of the Week while Souths and Norths had an exciting cross river derby clash.

It was the River Derby, north versus south and with both teams desperate for a win.

Norths were on a five game losing streak and South’s last points recorded were in a draw against UQ.

Cormac Pearson reported Norths were first to score through hooker Dante Santos scoring left of the posts after an early run of possession.

But South’s would hit straight back after winning some field position.

An early spread wide gave speedy fullback Henry Hourigan plenty of room running 25m to score 5metres in from touch.

Norths played the field position game well, but south’s goal line defence was French-esque and they were rewarded for it.

Flying winger Fonofili Logoileu plucked an intercept just metres from his own line, running 95m to score under the posts.

Things continued as they were with Norths parking themselves in the opposition half, but another intercept to the Magpies got them out of trouble, this time not resulting in points but saving a sure five-pointer.

A stop and start second half played into the Magpies game, scoring through interchange forward Samuelu Fetaoai Pologa.

A big win for South’s won through a game of big moments and strong goal line defence, with fullback Harry Hourigan and scrum half Sanni Siliva the standouts.

Andrew Dawson reports the Easts Tigers confirmed themselves as premiership favorites with a big win over Brothers at Bottomley Park.

With a powerful scrum and lineout setting a foundation, and with No.9 Will Kirk feasting, the Tigers completed a 33-5 win.

Easts scrum fired a shot across the bow early by winning a tighthead on Brothers attack ball and it set the scene for a complete team performance.

Lachlan Tokome scored first after a Will Kirk break and a pass on the inside which, after being knocked down by Brothers, the trailing Tokome pounced on to score.

Easts, playing uptempo from quick taps and 22m restarts, backed their passing game and their support play at the breakdown .

Kirk was again an elite performer, with his option taking at the base of the breakdowns, including his own burrowing skirmishes, testing Brothers’ defence.

Brothers were in the game in the first half, but would have been better placed had they control possession better at the breakdown.

Brothers also came out with a renewed second half effort, but errors plagued their game against an eager East outfit.

Aiding Easts momentum in the game was its scrum which twice earned penalties, and twice engineered tries for the side.

A delayed eight man shove was responsible for the match-sealing try midway through the second half.

Meanwhile, Hugo Percival and Finn Hearn shone in University of Queensland’s 31-17 win.

Sunnybank’s effort yesterday was led by No.2 Josh Mahina.

Wests coach Rob Roiri said the class of Mason Gordan, David Vaihu and Tain Roiri really shone through for his side.

“There education and leadership really set the way for the team,’’ he said.

He said this season has been a great opportunity to try new players. “It is about the pathway and how we can develop the players,’’ Roiri said.
