Queensland Reds Under-16s ready to rumble in Super Rugby competition following Fiji hitout at Ballymore on Sunday

The Queensland Reds Under-16s will begin their Super Rugby campaign next Saturday with form under the belt following a cracking showcase of rugby at Ballymore on Sunday.

The young Reds faced a Queensland Fiji youth team and won 46-7. The star of the show was headgear wearing left wing Isaac Fidock.

Year 10 student Fidock dazzled with three tries.

He was centimetres away from scoring a fourth but was brought down and also came away with a try assist when his deft grubber kicking put agile flanker Dyer Akauola in for the first five-pointer of the day.

The emerging Somerset College outside back has been on a tear as of late and all signs point towards a breakout campaign in the Super Rugby Under-16s competition, which kicked off on Sunday.

Fidock, speedy fullback Dylan Terblanche, towering lock Jack Calleja, second rower Manasa Vunibola and flanker Lincoln Dalton were among the standouts for the Reds in their eight try barrage against the Fijians.

One of the top tries of the day was scored by prop Tyrece Herniman when flanker Keegan Cook burst through the line and passed left. Big men Jack Calleja (lock) and Harrison Asi (prop) also scored with pick-and-drive tries.

FIDOCK’S FINE FORM

Dangerous youngster Fidock will enter the Under-16s tournament in fine form following a month of magic at Ballymore.

Earlier this month Fidock left his mark on the Emerging Reds Cup as one of the most potent attacking threats and on Sunday he served again.

Returning the ball, Fidock, made inroads and the only blemish on his captivating 70 minute performance was an error attempting to catch a high ball.

Outside of that the exciting utility was faultless. Whenever classy flyhalf Rohan Nichol sent the ball his way down the left edge, alarm bells rung.

He fended off his defender and crashed over for his first try. For his second Fidock had to thank Malakaih Beals for putting him in and for his third, it was a magical chip-and-chase play that began on the halfway line.

Fidock regathered his own kick to put an exclamation mark on a stellar showing right on full time.

DYNAMIC DYER, DALTON DUO

Lincoln Dalton was productive in just over one half of action on Sunday.

Brisbane Grammar young guns Lincoln Dalton (openside flanker) and Dyer Akauola (blindside flanker) also flexed their muscles in an important preparation match for the Reds.

The side will only have four training sessions together before their round two away game against the ACT Brumbies but the connection is already strong between BGS First XV teammates Akauola and Dalton.

Gun backrower Akauola scored the first try of the day when speedster Fidock dabbed in a wonderful grubber kick towards the in-goal.

Akauola dived on the ball, and it was 5-0.

Dalton, one of the top on-ballers in this age group, also made his presence known in less than 40 minutes of action.

Early in the match he earnt two penalties at the breakdown and his locks Vunibola and Calleja followed suit later in the match when they both won breakdown penalties.

AGAPETOS POWER

Keep an eye on Dylan Terblanche (left) and Agapetos Lote-Felo (right) throughout the Super Rugby Under-16s tournament.

The Southport School No. 8 Agapetos Lote-Felo maintained the rage after coming away with the top forward of the Emerging Reds Cup honours earlier this month.

Lote-Felo was an absolute handful on both sides of the ball. Every time he took the ball forward he made a handful of post contact metres to power his team past the advantage line.

In a flurry of good moments midway through the first stanza, Lote-Felo made two strong runs, produced a thumping hit on defence and then showed up at the breakdown.

Lote-Felo jackaled the ball and earnt a penalty and not long after he almost put Isaac Fidock in for a try when he drew two defenders in and unloaded to Fidock.

Fidock looked to pass back infield just shy of the line and it was deflected by a Fijian cover defender.

CROWD PLEASER

The Queensland Fiji side scored the first try in the second half and it was a moment of magic from left wing Raidon Powell that delivered the blow.

He stole the ball at the breakdown within his 22m and then struck downfield 85m before diving over.

He showed plenty of speed and Impressive flyhalf Cale Maurice added the extras.

Across the match, fleet footed fullback Yorick Powell was dangerous in broken play, while the running game of halfback Taukie Maile was productive.

Jacob Ratuere and Tukai Ramanumanu also had their moments winning penalties at the breakdown.
