Who have been the Players of the Season - regardless of if their side has won or lost?

As the competition moves toward the business end, we have reviewed our round by round reports to see who have been the players most frequently mentioned as their team’s best players.

First we have one round to complete before the finals, but the top six is confirmed - Palm Beach Currumbin, Maroochydore, Broadbeach, Wilston Grange, Sherwood and Aspley.

Aspley could lose to Surfers Paradise in round 21 and be on the same number of competition points, but the Demons will not be able to make up a 60 percentage point deficit.

Now for the season’s best players.

Surfers Paradise Demons

Jake Seccombe has led his team from the front all season. He’s the team’s Mr One Percent, always doing the hard work at the coalface of the contest and cracking in when it is needed most. A coach would love to have a full team of players like him. He always leads by example.

Jake Selvey is a classy midfielder who runs both ways and always seems to find a way to get his hands on the ball when he’s needed most. He’s an allrounder who is great on the ground and in the air. A competitor.

Al Al-Nabhan is the workhorse ruckman who never shies away from the contest and who can break games open both in the centre and up forward. Having only played footy for a few years his potential is untapped.

Jordan Williams is a classy midfielder with an extremely high footy IQ. He has an uncanny knack of positioning himself exactly where the ball is going to be and finding space for teammates.

Lachlan Morrisey is a hard running backman who breaks likes and always seems to find the gap to run through. As a youth player he’s go unlimited potential, especially due to his hunger for knowledge and desire to improve his game.

Christian Midle is Surfers’ no nonsense backman who never say’s die. He is the type that hates losing more than he does winning. He has been the backline leader all season and done a tremendous job on some of the competition’s best forwards.

Sherwood

The Magpies were in the lofty position due to a supreme team effort. That must be emphasised.

But Sherwood have had particular leaders this season, and they included:

In his first season with Sherwood, the dynamic Ryliegh Utting was dangerous around midfield and offered his team plenty of forward entries across the season.

Zach Bidgood was versatile, capable of playing both ends who was a great marker.

Alex Peacock, still eligible for the under 17s, was a revelation on the wing working hard both ways and racking up possession, all the while getting himself on the score sheet.

Key defender Owen Capling was dominant rebounding the ball from the backline, while Tom Gillett, playing up in age group, worked hard all game, having a high work rate for a ruck where he was dominant on the ground and in the air.

Jack Gersekowski and Will Munro were also terrific for the Magpies.

Aspley

Campbell Harrop has been a fabulous week in, week out mid/forward who competes in every contest. He used his smarts well. He had a big helper across the midfield or half forward line in Tom Bradley

Jake Howson was a forward who kept hitting at the ball while Ben Dempsey had a capacity

to win lots of one-on-one contests. Both Judah Crocker and Calen Harrop were also consistently among the Hornets’ best.

Wilston Grange

Duncan McCabe and Ryan Lewis have been midfield dynamos and the Gorillas’ lofty standing is in no small way due to this ball hungry pair. They were clean at the stoppages.

Aston Wilson had an ability to play a strong shut down role as good as anyone in the competition. Very good down back.

Marcus Zip the athletic ruckman has been a tower of strength - literally - for Wilston Grange

Jack Fewster was a powerful forward who was consistently hard to stop and while Lucas Kera was never the best afield, but he was always among the votes.

Broadbeach

The Cats have had a small army of outstanding players this season, but the very best from Broadbeach country have been the Gwynne boys, Cooper and Harry, who have been magnificent so far this season through the midfield and will be key players in the finals.

Then you have Cooper Parkes, Cooper Wilkinson and Jack Jovanovic - but you could add another five at least to the best players list.

Jovanovic, a key forward, is the baby of our best player list. He only turned 16 in May and has impressed with hard leading, strong hands and accurate kicking for goal.

Morningside

The foundation of the Panthers performances this season has come from five players in particular.

Not surprising three were midfield operatives – the highly skilled Harry Taylor, a young man with a particularly big motor, the scavenging Joey Wilson who has been a real cattle dog and Zane Pearce.

But Bryce Longland, who has swung both back and forward and centre half backman Tanner Griffiths have also been consistently very good.

“They were consistently in the votes every week,’’ said Morningside coach Ross Anderson.

Noosa

Jed Bullman across the midfield was a beast for the Noosa side, while Billy Bowes has been a swing man who could take on the packs and compete well in the ruck.

Half back flanker Tristyn Dawson was grand, and small backman Jack Leary rarely lost a one-on-one contest and was so dependable in defence,

Zak Koributiak was a super fit midfielder who is one the ball or game and pushes hard forward and back and Max Cooper was reliable.

Labrador

This young Labrador group earned plenty of admiration for their endeavour playing against bigger bodies.

There was a time this year where Labrador had six 15-year-olds playing in the colts.

The team had some particularly eye-catching players, including work horse Leo Johnston who is hard and tough around the footy and who could win his own ball

Labrador’s Sebastian Stevens

Jack Turner was a backline leader who was also prepared to take the game on with down back or at centre half back and had a willing partner in Tom Ray, while Seb Stevens was crafty with his decision making.

Another high class performer was forward Jayden De Simone along with Seth Catenese through the midfield or back.

Mt Gravatt

The Vultures had their moments and were always very competitive. No team went to Klumpp Rd on a Saturday morning for a holiday. They couldn’t afford that luxury.

Heath Seadon was a fine player across midfield and forward where he had a capacity to collect the ball clearly and deliver with his left foot. There were plenty of others including midfielder Kieran Micheletti, the intercept marking Jarrod Green down back including putting his body on the line, midfield wonder Voss Baguga, midfielder Kyne McDonald who plays in and under, Dylan Verhey and Cam Miller.

Redland-Victoria Point

The foundation of the Sharks week to week performances came from Raph Geesu, Ryan King, Sam Catlow-Elliott, Harrison Reilly and Harrison Sala.

King and Geesu have been talented midfielders who were dynamic around the stoppages, Sala was a midfield player with a big engine who never stopped and Catlow-Elliott would play several roles, including in the ruck.

Reilly is a tall, skilled player who is versatile and has a big clearing kick.

Palm Beach Currumbin

While premierships were not won in August, PBC are the table topping side entering the finals for good reason.

Foggo, Munro, Cahill - this is a serious football side.

But here’s another six of the best reasons they will take some stopping.

Among the best all season have been:

Beau Lester-Sutherland, the midfield bull who generates plenty of forward entries.

Wingman Nelson Beikoff-Smart who, when he is on, is as good as any player on the field in his position where he is dangerous and creative with his run, footy smarts and clever ball use.

Charlie Elliot, another wingman who adds a dimension to PBC’s play

Tom Grimster, the under 17 age group player who has never once looked out of place playing up

Macklin Johnston who has been a great focal point down forward and of course Jett Rowe.
