Padua College remains unbeaten after four rounds, and after a break this weekend, confront Villanova, have a bye and then finish with St Laurence’s College at home in Banyo.

St Patrick’s coach Brian Polich said St Laurence’s started well, having five sets out of the first six game sets, but with some “grit and grind’’ in defence, Paddies worked their way into the game.

Coach Brian Polich said Paddies completed 11 from 14 sets in the first half and “aligned with some good ball movement and supporting each other, went into halftime 20-0 up’’.

At one stage in the second half “SPC gained the advantage and went six sets straight, and then with Sam Condon seeing a quick play the ball 10m out, he stepped his way to score his second try under the posts to take the score to 26-0.

Polich praised Laurie’s for not gong away.

“However, SPC defended well with Jimmy Boland making one huge covering tackle to stop one of the scoring opportunities.

“The game ended well and both teams should be congratulated on how they played the game and the standard of football played.’’

Yes, that name – again. The Meninga Cup grand final hero and Confraternity Carnival Team of the Tournament hooker selection was at it again, shining out of dummy half for Padua College.

Playing at five-eight, Condon showed his strengths by moving the team to where he wanted them.

He also ran strongly and displayed his passing ability many times. His reward was two tries.

Cameron Bukowski and Jackson Connor (Villanova)

Just as Rogers is a regular in our squad, so is Villanova hooker Bukowski. He ran his side from dummy half, attacked strongly and defended stoutly while outside back Connor was a constant threat.

Jayden Solien and Brock Dillon (Padua College)

The boys beautifully complemented each other, taking advantage of Padua’s effective forward play and Mitch Rogers’ dummy half play. Solien had the footwork and speed and quick hands, Dillon the organisation and game management.

William Kartello (St Laurence’s College)

The fullback was everywhere, saving tries with his defence and injecting himself in attack.

Hudson Burgess (St Laurence’s College)

The Laurie’s winger took the tough carries out of his end and defended strongly, including putting on a few big hits.

Pascoe started in the front row and played the majority of the match in the back row after Iona lost a player early on to injury.

“He played great with numerous line breaks and plenty of tough carries. His desperation in defence defused a number of tries for the opposition.’’

Jimmy Boland (St Patrick’s College)

The Paddies fullback, he has learned a lot how he can contribute both in defence and attack, helping the team with his kick returns and at the weekend he showed tremendous speed to score 35m try off Sam Condon’s good work.

Connor Moloney and Lachlan Ebrington (Villanova)

Both boys helped give Villa a slight point of difference which saw their side sneak home in a narrow victory.
