They include the fabulous 15 of brilliant rookies Caleb Law, Torrie Lewis, Jai Gordon, Toshi Butlin, Ashley Wong, Isabelle Harte, Jack Love, Charlize Goody, Ethan Petcos, Zara Hagan, Peyton Craig, Benjamin Roberts, Matilda Lee, Emelia Surch and Joseph Saunders who spearheaded Queensland’s campaign against the best juniors in the nation.

While the sublime Lewis (women) and Gordon (men) will spearhead the Australian sprint team effort at the world juniors, Law will also be front and centre in the 200m, sprint relays and also the 100m.

A Caboolture boy who is coached by Andrew Iselin at Mayne Harriers, Law is such a rare talent that veteran Queensland track and field coach Eric Brown has not seen a talent like him for years.

“He has acceleration toward the middle and end of a race that I have not seen in a long time,’’ Brown said.

Law’s coach Andrew Iselin said his sprinter had an outstanding championship, breaking personal best times and records in “horrible conditions”.

“And he still managed to come away with a third in the open mens 200 against a fresh field. I feel privileged that I get to coach someone of his talent so early in my coaching journey.’’

Iselin said he knew the Morayfield SHS alumni was a rare talent when he saw him as an 11-year-old boy.

“I new Calab was capable of being a great athlete when I first saw him at 11-years-old at a State Little Athletics championships,’’ he said.

“I saw this little kid that was beating kids twice his size and I thought to myself I want to train this kid one day.’’

Law, who won the under 20 200m dash at the nationals this month, is part of a white hot group of young Queensland sprinters who lit up the national track and field championships.

Brown, who coached decathletes Ashley Moloney (Olympics) and Cedric Dubler (Commonwealth Games) to bronze medals, has his own sprint star, Toshi Butlin, whom Brown said was a potential national champion.

“If he focuses he will slay the under 20 sectional times. He really has the goods.

“He has immense potential and is the next kid on the blocks who I think will go places and make the next world junior team if he does not get injured.’’

Queensland also has a brilliant relay team doing the rounds, spearheaded by Law and Nudgee College schoolboy Ashley Wong.

Law and Wong, a thrilling 200m and 100m talent, joined another Aussie under 20 qualifier Gordon and Lachlan Kennedy in storming to a gold medal in the 4x100m relay (under 20s) at the national track and field championships.

Gordon (10.28secs) is like greased lightning who beat Law (10.36sec) in the under 20 100m shoot out, but Law won the 200m.

Harte’s remarkable run at 3000m continued, with another national gold – this time in the under 18 competition.

The St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ School student has the heart the size of a lion and is never beaten.
