The second annual Youth Rugby Coaches forum, headlined by Australia A Head coach Jason Gilmore will be held at Nudgee College on January 20-21.

Forum founder Sean Graham, the director of rugby at Nudgee College, said the 2023 version would “take the forum to the next level in 2023 by involving presenters from around the world.’’

“We were overwhelmed with the feedback we received from last year’s event, and I’m even more energised this time around as we aren’t restricted by COVID, allowing us to involve both presenters and attendees from outside South East Queensland,’’ Graham said.

He said a new partnership with Canterbury of New Zealand was making it possible to recruit presenters from around Australia, and allow regional and remote area coaches to attend.

The two day program combines on-field coach demonstrations, keynote presentations, think tanks and Q & As with some of the brightest minds in the game.

Joining Gilmore at the forum will be RugbyBricks founder and skills coach expert Peter Breen; former British & Irish Lions player Ben Te’o; current Kyuden (Japan) head coach Zane Hilton and Director of Rugby at Ealing Trailfinders (London), Ben Ward.

General manager of the Queensland Reds, former Wallaby Sam Cordingley, will also attend while more guests will be confirmed.

Along with core-skill and position-specific skill master classes, the forum will cover communication techniques, session and program planning, mental fitness strategies, breathing techniques, pilates, video analysis, and strength & conditioning programs to name a few.

“One of the highlights of last year’s event and something we are planning to grow further this year is the breakaway think tanks where coaches get together to share their knowledge on topics they are passionate about,’’ Graham said.

“These think tanks embody the coopetition theme for the weekend, and coaches are exposed to how co-operating with your competitors can ultimately help everyone.”
