NRL new chums have continued their youth build up by signing the 2020 Justin Hodges Medallist from the Langer Trophy competition.
Corey Thomas won the inaugural Hodges medal, awarded to the competition’s best player, playing for Wavell SHS in the Brisbane Broncos-sponsored elite schoolboy competition.
Wavell SHS will host Tuesday’s Langer Trophy match of the round against Marsden SHS - all live streamed by www.couriermail.com.au, the Gold Coast Bulletin and News affiliates.
All eight Langer clashes - Ipswich SHS v Mabel Park SHS, PBC SHS v Redcliffe SHS and Coombabah SHS v Keebra Park SHS - and four Walters Cup games - will be played Tuesday to avoid a clash with Wednesday’s State of Origin match.

A fullback, Thomas is a clever signing by the Dolphins who were reeling in rookie talent to develop around the club’s established NRL signings.
Thomas, who played in the Wests Tigers system last year, is a very good all around footballer capable of making the big league.
He is fas but can play tough and enjoys the contact.
Indeed he is a former Norths Devils junior lock who does not shy away from the physical stuff both with and without the ball.
It is a shrewd acquisition because is capable of coming off and Dolphins fans should doff their bright red caps to the organisations recruitment staff for thinking outside the square.

Thomas’ acquisition comes as the Dolphins continue to sign fine young talent.
News recently revealed the signing of Wynnum Manly Meninga Cup front rower, emerging Queensland 18s Origin player Ryan Jackson, and a host of Queensland schoolboy representatives.
Queensland schoolboy team selections like Michael Roberts (PBC SHS), Charlie Dickson (Wavell SHS), Jairus Halahala (Sunshine Coast), Nixon Pasese (Nudgee College), Brian Pouniu (Sunshine Coast), Benson Tau (Marsden SHS), Mereki Warradoo (Redcliffe SHS), Carter Welfare (Nudgee College) and Nate Berrigan (Sunshine Coast) were on board with the Redcliffe-based NRL club.
However, the club is also signing promising schoolboys from the rugby league rich Rockhampton region where the club sponsors the Dolphins Cup.
It is the top tier schoolboy competition geographically wedged between the Langer Trophy (SEQ) and Payne Cup (FNQ).
