Redcliffe SHS and Mabel Park SHS will play for history tomorrow when they clash chasing the eighth and final place in the presitigous Langer Cup competition.

Redcliffe SHS and Mabel Park SHS will play for history tomorrow when they clash chasing the eighth and final place in the prestigious Langer Cup competition.

This season the Langer Cup has been expanded from six to eight teams, with Coombabah SHS automatically joining incumbent schools Palm Beach Currumbin SHS, Keebra Park SHS, Marsden SHS, Wavell SHS, St Mary’s College Toowoomba and Ipswich SHS in expanded competition.

Last week Redcliffe defeated Alexandra Hills SHS while Mabel Park SHS outlasted a fast-finishing Forest Lake SHS, leading to Wednesday’s encounter at Carina Leagues.

Mabel Park SHS coach Lee Addison said his team needed to continue their good traits such as toughness and skill which was displayed against Forest Lake SHS, while also being disciplined and not giving the opposition a chance to get into the match.

“Recliffe complete, complete and complete. They functional, structured, and well coached with good players.

“They will defend with willingness they if we keep giving them field position they will beat us and we won’t qualify.’’

Redcliffe’s win in a slow match was built around the front row of Sefo Faotuono, Jack Cameron, Matthew Bennett and No.13 Kiahl Moore, while with limited chances edge forwards Braith Major and Jacob Taulani looked the goods.

Redcliffe coach Scott Murray said his forwards had been match hardened by playing Mal Meninga Cup football.

“Those boys are Mal Meninga Cup players with the Dolphins, so they have had a good education,’’ he said.

Once senses Taulani will come into his own in a clash against Mabel Park SHS which is expected to be played more up tempo than the encounter against Alex Hills.

“There were some opportunities and he (Taulani) looked dangerous when he had them,’’ Murray said.

Mabel Park SHS fullback Mustafa Kaya, who is adhering to Ramadan, will again be a key with his organisational ability.

“If it was not for his talk in defence (against Forest Lake), I don’t know if we had got there (and won),’’ Addison said.
