As the travelling team, TGS claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over their Ipswich rivals to stay ahead of close ladder contenders BSHS.

Anglican Church Grammar School v Gregory Terrace at ACGS

A round one wish from Churchie’s coach came true following a clean sweep season for the East Brisbane school.

The side defeated GT 3-2 in a thrilling final match to assert themselves as undefeated premiers for 2023.

After finishing sixth in 2022, coach Ben Wasley set his sights on the premiership after winning round one against BSHS on home soil.

For Terrace, the loss meant the side was unable to jump ahead of BSHS, instead remaining in fifth place on the ladder.

Gregory Terrace team captain Harry McKim said he was still proud of his team’s resilience and passion in their last game.

“I have never played a more thrilling game as both teams displayed exceptional skill and enthusiasm throughout the five-set match, on top of an intense atmosphere that drove us to play at our finest,” he said.

“When I reflect back on the GPS season, I cannot fully apprehend my appreciation of a better team of athletes to lead and better yet, the coaching staff to help prepare us for our most difficult challenges during the season.”

Terrace volleyball director Luke Reid also voiced his admiration for how the team performed from round one to nine.

“The college could not be prouder of the boys on the weekend, the determination and resilience on display was outstanding,” he said.

“It was a thrilling five-set match in which Harry and the team never looked set to back down from.

“Under the guidance of head coach Ben Bell and assistant coach Cameron Young, the growth of this team across the season was significant and epitomised in their performance on the weekend.

“Congratulations to Churchie on their premiership season.”
