Easts have the chance to go where no team has gone on Saturday when they welcome reigning champions Brothers to Bottomley Park.

The Brethren are 5-0 to start the season, and the Tigers (5-0) have ambitions to deal the visitors their first loss in a top of the table clash that will pit two premiership contenders against each other.

Easts got plenty out of elite openside flanker Alex Smit in its 26-22 round 6 toppling of Souths, leading to Smit being the first named in the latest StoreLocal Hospital Cup team of the week.

Smit’s tighthead prop, Nick Bloomfield, 21, also had a top notch showing against a formidable opposite in George Francis (Souths loosehead).

For Souths, 21-year-old hooker Harry Holt had a blinder alongside impressive blindside Connor Vest, No. 8 Keenan Timu and arguably the competition’s best tactical kicking flyhalf, Lachlan Stewart.

On Hugh Courtney Oval at Norths, teen inside centre Ryan Heaton made people stand up and take note of his toughness and skill.

A Colt thriving in first grade, Heaton has started every game and had his best outing at the weekend where raised eyebrows with his dogged defence and running ability.

He had his hands full with outstanding GPS midfielders Joe Doljanin and Jack Peterson.

But GPS’ best on ground was Lachie Howse, the fit as a fiddle flanker with points to prove this year.

One of the Gallopers best through six rounds, Howse was a part of the club’s most recent Colts 1 premiership (2021) and has is hitting his straps as a ballrunning menace and ball of energy.

The always busy Te Ohorei Totorewa was the biggest omission from the team of the week, due to fierce competition from sleek Wests winger Mattias Douglas and dependable Bond Uni winger Deon Evans-Ao-Leifi.

Sunnybank centre Tevita Ahosivi makes the team for the second week in a row after another brilliant performance in a 43-26 loss against the Bulldogs.

The ever-reliable Will Wilson (lock) and Angus Lovelock (loosehead prop) played their way into a spot after guiding Brothers to a 33-26 win over Bond, their fifth in a row.
