Ipswich Grammar School will unleash two elite talents – one a forward, the other a back – for Saturday’s round 2 GPS First XV match against Churchie.

Both NRL signings, Israel Leota will play outside centre and David Leota will play No. 8 in the away fixture.

They will be joined by another new face in 2022, winger Rhys Woods.

ROUND 1 REPORT

The tall, athletic Israel Leota is a highly promising outside back who has been signed by the Brisbane Broncos. He was a member of Karmichael Hunt’s premiership winning under 18 Meninga Cup rugby league side in May.

David Leota was one of the best forwards in the Connell Challenge under 16 rugby league competition, playing for the Ipswich Jets.

So well did he play, the 2021 Queensland 15 years schoolboy representative earned a contract with Canterbury Bankstown.

First round winners Churchie have retained the same side for the clash following a round 1 win over Terrace.

The Stoddart name continues to flourish at Churchie, long after their decorated dad left the college.

Church is of course captained by Thomas Stoddart from flanker, but the other breakaway is Joe Stoddart.

Their older brother George (2020) captained Churchie two years ago.

Terrace remain unchanged.

For the big clash at Nudgee, first round winners Toowoomba Grammar School will have a new starting hooker, with Jeremiah Sialau, coming into the side.

Brisbane Grammar School, to be captained by fly half Ryan Shaw, will play its first match after a round 1 bye against BSHS at home.

An interesting selection in the centres for BGS is Will Sheedy, who was pivotal to the school’s dramatic GPS First XI win during March.

Sheedy was the fastest bowler in the competition, and clearly has a bit of toe on the rugby paddock as well.
