He is the son of a former Premier Rugby hooker who has the honour of leading the prestigious Brisbane Grammar School into the fray this season.

BGS skipper Ryan Shaw will again look to steer his team to a second successive win in a home clash against St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace, a clash which will see Terrace winger Joe Clifford make his debut.

Samuel Mellick and Angus Tolhurst will also debut for Grammar.

Clifford will be joined in the first match club by Brisbane Boys College No. 8 Taisia Leaupepe as another exciting round looms.

“He has a great work ethic, is a second-year member of the team and a great role model to the broader BGS community,’’ Mooney said.

“He is a brave defender who can also threaten the defence with the ball in hand.’’

Shaw, whose father Will played alongside Mooney in the powerhouse Wests’ teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s, has come right through the BGS pathway program – all the way from the 12As.

Last week he and his halves partner Ned Madden helped pilot BGS to victory over BSHS, and another exciting challenge presents itself against Terrace at Northgate.

Strapping No. 8 Leaupepe will be a part of BBC run on side for the first time in the away fixture against Ipswich Grammar who were highly promising despite defeat against Churchie.

And at Northgate, dreams will come true for Terrace winger Clifford who replaces Harry Lane (concussion).

Both boys will be wearing famous jerseys some of Queensland rugby’s finest have worn in past seasons.
