The GPS First XI round 4 Team of the Week can be revealed after drama aplenty which saw a tie and another two thrilling late results. Story here.

Terrace fieldsmen Jackson McDonald and Theodore Bacalakis were heroes when they conjured up a run out that led to a remarkable tie between BGS and Terrace.

In a remarkable finish at Northgate, both BGS (8-232) and Terrace (8-232) finished with the same scores after Benjamin Rothwell was dismissed by the McDonald-Bacalakis combination after he and Oliver Harris (17 not out) looked to have won the game.

Nudgee College also chased down BBC in a thriller as the GPS First XI competition went to another level on Saturday. Nudgee won with 16 balls and just two wickets to spare.

And in another dramatic finish, TSS had to fight for their lives before downing BSHS, while

TGS (4-227) broke through for an exciting win over Churchie (206).

TEAM OF THE WEEK

1. Theodore Bacalakis (Terrace)

Bacalakis was the first man chosen in the Team of the Week after his match high 82 (97 balls) and late run out which secured a tie.

In a match where runs rolled from the bat at almost five runs per over, his leg spin was also handy. But it was his batting and field which earned up his stripes.

2. Joshua Cranston (TGS)

Cranston was the glue of the Toowoomba Grammar innings, with his 78 from 114 balls a beautifully paced knock which saw his side safely to 177 before he was dismissed.

He shared in a 135 run partnership with Fraser Judd, himself a very fine player.

TGS needed an innings of substance and Cranston provided that in spades.

3. Charlie Henderson (Nudgee)

Henderson was nerveless during his match winning 47 not out from 69 balls. He lifted Nudgee from the brink of defeat at 5-91, threading together partnerships with Stroud (25), Kratzmann and Will Neubecker before joining Spencer Green in an unbroken stand of 30 that won the game for Nudgee.

4. Eli Brain (BGS)

It was a match where Queensland U17 representatives Brain and Bacalakis rose to the occasion. Brain’s 71 from 87 balls put BGS into a winning position, an innings cut short by the Harry Klatt-Kai McClymont fielding combination which ran Brain out. Brain’s 0-35 from 10 overs also built pressure on the Terrace batsmen.

5. D’Arcy Satharasinghe (BBC)

One of the players of the competition so far, D’Arcy Satharasinghe again produced with both bat and ball. His sizzling 44 propelled the BBC innings along at a great rate of knots, and then with the ball Satharasinghe (4-41) looked to be bowling his side to victory when he claimed Thomas Bayo, the plucky Corey Stroud and Byron Kratzmann.

6.Sean Hansen (Churchie)

Hansen claimed 3-35 from nine overs in an innings dominated by the TGS batsmen. He dismissed two set batsmen, Cranston and Judd, and stuck to his task superbly. With the bat he was also threatening. He reached 37 after a blazing 35 ball performance, although he would have loved to have spent another hour in the middle.

7. Will Driessen (BGS)

The Brisbane Grammar captain suffered early at the hands of a run away Bacalakis, but returned for a second spell to claim the valuable wickets of Samuel Jones (22), Ollie Nasser and George Hales (23). BGS would not have drawn the game without Drissen intercepting those innings.

8. Charles Hinze (BSHS)

Hinze moved mountains to again make the team of the week. Playing in the most demanding environment, for 51 deliveries he conquered the TSS attack on the Village Green, scoring 44 and raising his side from the perils of 6-89 to a score of 150-plus. Then, with the ball, he took 3-29 to put BSHS in a winning position.

9. Riley Eckersley (TSS)

Right arm off spin bowler Riley Eckersley (3-25) shone yet again with a superb spell of bowling. The Year 12 student claimed both the BSHS captain, Bachu, and vice-captain Holmes, while also dismissing No.3 batsman Charlie McGrath. It was an outstanding performance.

10.Jackson Haynes (TGS).

Haynes finished with the best figures (3-42), taking two vital late wickets after Churchie had positioned themselves at 6-187.

It was a close call, but Haynes claimed two wickets after earlier dismissing Churchie captain Angus Storen.

11. Spencer Green (Nudgee)

Green swiped 13 not out from seven balls to ease the tension and hoist his side to a victory which seemed unlikely when Nudgee was 8-182 chasing 212 against BBC. Earlier, the leg spin bowler took an innings altering 3-36 when he ousted BBC’s batting anchor Will Garate (54), claimed the dangerous Blake Armstrong (18) and also dismissed Christian Alexander.

12. Ryan Atley (BBC)

BBC gloveman Atley fired against Nudgee when he produced 59 runs before Queensland representative Hayden Hamilton had him stumped by Charlie Henderson. Another 30 minutes of Atley the BBC’s score would have ballooned toward 240.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

Jaxson Davies (TSS)

On a day when the bowlers shaded the batsmen, Davies worked hard for his 55 from 93 balls to lay foundations for TSS’s winning run chase.

Jason Campese (TSS)

Campese’s valuable 41 in a low scoring match was the difference between TSS winning or sliding to its second defeat of the season. At 6-116 TSS were in grave trouble, but he took TSS close enough to the victory target.

Daniel Desmet (Churchie) made a fine contribution to the Churchie effort with a half century and 1-40 with the ball.

Fraser Judd (TGS): Solid as a rock Judd had a fine club season and yesterday he hit the mark for his school with 65 from 114 balls that contributed greatly to his side posting a winning 4-227.

Will Garate (BBC). Garate (54, 134 balls) was the rock of the BBC innings. He batted deep into the innings, allowing the stroke players to flow at the other end.

Banjo Seaniger (TGS). Banjo’s 10 for just 21 runs allowed the team’s strike bowler Charlie Lachmund to just take off and bowl fast. It was a fine team bowling performance because he built pressure at one end.

Oliver Lockwood (TGS) claimed two top order wickets, Will Souter and the threatening Desmet.

George Hales (Terrace) tied off with a whirlwind 23 from just 10 balls, and with the ball claimed the vital wicket of Armaan Timblo in his second spell.

Sasen Perera (BSHS) was outstanding during his spell of 9-2-30-2 which included the wickets of both TSS openers, Cameron Sinfield and Ishaan Sandhu.

Ashton Clark (BBC) bowled beautifully again and did not deserve to be on a losing side. He took 1-26 from 10 overs.
