Gold Coast Titans sign 16-year-old Wavell State High School playmaker Jordy Hotere

The Gold Coast Titans have swooped to sign an elite Year 10 playmaker from the same school as Greg Inglis. Learn more about him here.

The astute Gold Coast Titans selectors have swooped to sign an emerging playmaker from rugby league stronghold Wavell State High School - the same school Greg Inglis went to.

The Titans have signed New Zealand boy Jordy Hotere, a classy Year 10 student plying his trade at one of the Langer Trophy’s elite rugby league finishing schools.

The gun utility who plays halfback but is a more than capable hooker or No.13 has signed on through 2026, which will be his senior year.

“He is a massive part of our team. I am genuinely surprised it has taken this long,” said Wavell SHS head of rugby league Ben Colley.

“He just does what he is asked to do... there is no ego. He is exactly what you want as a half.

“His defence is one of his strengths, there aren’t too many halves going around where you can genuinely say that.”

The signing comes on the back of Hotere’s strong campaign as the conductor of the Wynnum Manly Seagulls Connell Cup Under-17s representative side, which featured fellow Wavell boys Devine Time (Broncos) and Jared Horne (Broncos).

During the school season, Hotere plays halfback in the Walters Cup competition.

His side is undefeated after two rounds following wins over Keebra Park SHS and Marsden SHS, but face their biggest test against Ipswich SHS who are coming off a 36-10 win over Mabel Park SHS.

Hotere will then progress into the Langer Reserves competition next year or dip his feet in the Langer Trophy as a Year 11.

The crafty 16-year-old is a player who seems to have time, someone whose deft kicking game, pin point passing and gutsy defence is only going to get even better as he gets older and trains with other elite schoolboy playmakers like Zane Harrison and Ryder Williams at Titans central at Parkwood.

Hailing from Auckland, Hotere, like Marsden bash brothers Grayson and Nik Wharakura, have come across the Tasman for more opportunities and greater exposure to the rigours of rugby league in Queensland.

It said everything about Hotere’s commitment when he starred for Wavell’s Year 10 side in their win over Marsden on the school’s gala Homecoming Day on Tuesday.

Left footed Hotere had arrived back in Brisbane on Monday afternoon, after going back home to play in the New Zealand Maori Rugby League Under-17s tournament.
