Future rugby sevens top guns take to the field for the Santos All Schools 7s at South Pine Sports Complex

The Santos All Schools rugby sevens tournament unearthed star sisters Teagan and Maddison Levi so we have revealed 50 of the top talents to watch at this year’s event. SEE THE LIST

Some future rugby sevens stars will be on show at this year’s Santos All Schools 7s tournament which features newcomers Brisbane State High. So, we have revealed the top talents to watch.

80 teams from schools all around Queensland will be hosted by the South Pine Sports Complex on 22 and 23 October.

Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea, Teagan and Maddi Levi are All Schools products who have shone in the on-the-rise Australian Women’s Sevens team.

So who are some of the promising youngsters taking part in this year’s tournament?

Here we reveal boys and girls across all age groups who will showcase their talent for selection into the Queensland 18 Youth Boys and Youth Girls teams for the National Championships later in the year.

TOP 50 PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tavarna Papalii (Keebra Park State High School, Southport)

Australian Schoolgirls Captain for Rugby League Tavarna Papalii is one to watch without a question. She has also been involved heavily in representative Rugby 7s.

An incredible athlete who has the ball playing to match already being a very strong defender.

Huge threat.

Ebony Raftstrand-Smith (Keebra Park State High School, Southport)

Ebony Raftstrand-Smith has rugby star written all over her. She is the younger sister of Tiana, who plays in the NRLW.

Ebony is the Australian Schoolgirls Rugby League younger sister of Rugby 7s and NRLW star Tiana Raftstrand-Smith.

Ebony is a superb finisher, with speed and strength on the edge. She is very good at turning half chances into tries.

Jaida Faleono (Keebra Park State High School, Southport)

Keebra are looking dangerous. Australian Schoolgirls Rugby 7s select Jaida Faleono is a strong runner of the ball and is almost impossible to stop one on one.

She’s extremely skilful as well meaning she can produce a late offload or quick pop pass to keep the attack going.

Georgette Di Trapani (Mt Maria College, Mitchelton)

Age group: U18 Girls

Trapani is a natural talent, with footwork and a game awareness that matches some of the best well above her age.

Her vision on the field comes from her lengthy experience in other sports such as OzTag and Touch Football, with her athleticism developed over many years as a national level Cheerleader.

Bailey Sorbello (Mt Maria College, Mitchelton)

Age group: U15 Girls

Sorbello is a highly skilled player, well beyond her years. She is aggressive in both attack and defence, with a genuine love and passion for the game of Rugby 7s.

If you are looking for entertainment, Sorbello provides it—she is not one to hold back on the field.

Sienna O’Brien (Mt Maria College, Mitchelton)

Age group: U13 Girls

O’Brien is an athlete through and through, with a netball background but a natural talent across all codes of football— Rugby 7s included.

She’s better known for her game awareness and has become one of Mt Maria’s strongest ball thieves in the breakdown.

She is certainly one to look out for as she develops and her game strengthens.

Lola Nicholls (Mt Maria College, Mitchelton)

Age group: U13 Girls

If you are looking for speed, Nicholls is a strike weapon. Quick on her feet and an absolute go-getter, Nicholls is always searching for the ball or producing big second efforts in defence. Expect her to cross the line many times over the weekend, and even put her teammates over for an easy five points.

Danielle Tutakangahau (Mabel Park State High School, Slacks Creek)

Age group: U15 Girls

Tutakangahau is an electric player, with a great combination of speed, footwork and rugby IQ. In her capacity as team captain she often leads from the front foot, setting her team mates up and finishing off remarkable tries.

Amanii Misa (Mabel Park State High School, Slacks Creek)

Age group: U15 Girls

Misa is an exciting young talent who leads the way with her dominant carries and ability to clear the ruck.

A powerful forward with the footwork and finesse of a back—Misa is certainly someone to watch in the near future.

Nikolina Fangupo (Mabel Park State High School, Slacks Creek)

Age group: U18 Girls

Versatile is the word that comes to mind. Her mix of speed and strength makes her uniquely qualified to cover all 7 positions on the field.

Never afraid of hard work, Fangupo thrives under pressure and this makes her an exciting prospect. Expect to see her busting through tackles and scoring tries on the big stage in the near future.

Age group: U18 Girls

Su’a has been making waves in both rugby 7s and XVs for a few years now. Having now played for Qld in Rugby league and Rugby 7s as well as the QLD Reds Super W— Su’a is certainly an exciting prospect to watch.

She is well balanced on the field and is known for her powerful runs and dominant defensive style, often causing attackers to think twice before running through her channel twice.

Zoe Waters (The Glennie School, Toowoomba)

Age group: U18 Girls

Waters has wonderful skills and has been dominant since her recent inclusion in Rugby 7s. She comes from a strong Touch Football background and has been able to use these skills on the 7s field. On top of that, she has excellent passing skills which has allowed her team to play an expansive game.

Zoe Geiger (Downlands College, Toowoomba)

Age group: U18 Girls

Geiger has exceptional speed and an eye for the game. She is able to quickly identify gaps in the opposition and use her speed or skills to get through those gaps.

Reagan McMillan (Downlands College, Toowoomba)

Age group: U18 Girls

McMillan has the size and speed to break through any defensive line. She is a dangerous player with terrific strength which makes her hard to tackle.

She also has the speed and ball skills to consistently threaten any defensive line.

Erin Chandler (Downlands College, Toowoomba)

Age group: U18 Girls

Chandler will be key in her team’s success. Her leadership, skills, speed and ability to read the game makes her a star. She consistently threatens any defensive line and is able to get her team into terrific field position.

Deihan Lelilio-Sali (Mabel Park State High School, Slacks Creek)

Age group: U13 Girls

A player well beyond her years, Lelilio-Sali has a great rugby IQ that is complimented by her power and speed.

She is often seen in the middle of a breakdown pilfering the ball and putting her team on the front foot by carving her way through the defensive line. Whilst she is only young and has a long road ahead, she is on the right path to make waves in Rugby in the future.

Kiarah Siauane (Mabel Park State High School, Slacks Creek)

Age group: U18 Girls

Siauane stands out with her impressive speed and dominance in defence. She is never afraid to put her body on the line, often making repeat efforts in defence that ultimately lead to possession for her team.

Her rugby IQ, agility and ability to accelerate off the mark makes Siauane an exciting player to watch and a genuine threat from anywhere on the field. She represented Queensland earlier this year in Sydney for the inaugural Queensland School Girls side.

Mya Sautia (Mabel Park State High School, Slacks Creek)

Age group: U18 Girls

Sautia has a rugby IQ well beyond her age. This 16 year old is making a name for herself on the Rugby pitch through her ability to create space off the back of powerful runs and through her work in defence by forcing turnovers.

Beni Allen (John Paul College, Daisy Hill)

Age group: U18 Boys

Allen was the best player in the TAS schoolboy rugby competition. He’s contracted to the Brisbane Broncos and his explosive speed and ball handling ability should see his rugby league skills cross over to Rugby 7s quite well.

Annabelle Cobbin (West Moreton Anglican College, Karrabin)

Age group: U15 Girls

Cobbin has vision and speed in the link position which will be vital to not only set up the attack but in organising the defense as well.

She’s coming off winning a Silver Medal for Metropolitan West at the recent U15/16 Girls 7s Queensland School Sport State Carnival.

Rachael Wilson (West Moreton Anglican College, Karrabin)

Age group: U15 Girls

Wilson is a dynamic winger with great decision-making skills in attack and defense. Her low-chop tackle focus and speed in space are two keys to her positive game play.

She’s also a Silver Medal winner for Metropolitan West at the recent U15/16 Girls 7s Queensland School Sport State Carnival.

Dayton Bowman (St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly)

Age group: U15 Boys

Bowman is physically a fantastic young athlete with speed, agility and endurance. He’s also rugby smart, is dangerous in broken play and can ball play to bring others into the game.

He was a standout performer in the 9As this year for St Peters and has been playing his club Rugby with the Wests Bulldogs between flyhalf and fullback.

Dom Morton (St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly)

Age group: U18 Boys

Morton is electric, a dynamic runner of the ball and ball player who can create something for himself out of nothing.

He has played 1st XV for two seasons as fullback and winger and will shine with room to move.

Kasey Guthrie (St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly)

Age group: U13 Boys

Guthrie is one of St Peter’s brightest young sport stars. He’s a superb athlete and an exceptional swimmer. He was a standout in his first year of Rugby at the College in the 7As. He’s fast, powerful and has an eye for the tryline after crossing for seven in the All Saints rugby 7s carnival last week.

David Bolongi (King’s Christian College)

Age group: U15 Boys

Bolongi is a powerful and electric player with speed to burn. He is still learning the game and soccer is his main sport—after you see him play you won’t believe that.

He is a menace both offensively and defensively and if this young gun switches to rugby he does not have a ceiling. It’s a matter of how far he wants to take it.

Amahli Hala (King’s Christian College)

Age group: U18 Girls

Hala is already a real talent. She’s humble but on the field she becomes a force not to be reckoned with.

She is strong, fast, has the ability to see space, create space and with the silky skills of a touch player she can pass 15-20m left and right with ease.

Georgie Bunn (St Patrick’s College, Gympie)

Age group: U18 Girls

Bunn has been one of St Patrick’s shining lights over the last couple of years. She has a brilliant step and turn of speed.

Cover defense is something she excels at and opposing players should keep an eye out for her.

Sophie West (St Patrick’s College, Gympie)

Age group: U18 Girls

West has been a key part of the success of St Patrick’s College over the last two years. Her strong and powerful ball running has been crucial to getting the team on the front foot.

Her specialty— setting up tries with deceptive offloads.

Jesse Bender (North Lakes State College, North Lakes)

Age group: U18 Boys

Bender has raw speed and a great ability to beat defenders 1-on-1. He is also a Queensland and Australian (shadow) Hockey representative, so he can do it all.

Dustin Appo (North Lakes State College, North Lakes)

Appo is an amazing leader who always leads by example. His quick feet and outstanding ball skills make him a dangerous attacking weapon.

Madisen-Jade Iva (Canterbury College, Waterford)

Age group: U18 Girls

Iva was a part of the all-conquering Canterbury First VII who won the Vicki Wilson Cup, QISSN Cup and TAS Premiership in 2022. She’s taken up Rugby 7s as a hobby and has excelled since joining.

She has a no holds barred approach to her footy, a great mix of power, endurance and pace and as such will be hard to handle.

Nikeisha Ngaru (Canterbury College, Waterford)

Age group: U15 Girls

The ‘Smiling Assassin’ is a member of the BJRU U15 Girls team that recently won the State Championships.

Ngaru has the speed and agility to cut through teams from any position on the field. Working with Lorren Leli these two can be one dangerous combination.

Lorren Ieli (Canterbury College, Waterford)

Age group: U15 Girls

Leli is a powerhouse that can and will lay the platform for Canterbury at All Schools. She was selected in the U15 Girls Queensland Rugby League Merit Team.

Skye Cox (Maryborough State High School, Maryborough)

Age group: U15 Girls

Cox possesses all the skills of a great rugby sevens player. Speed, agility, passing accuracy and her tackle completion rate are all high class. But the skill that sets Cox above the pack is her kicking game.

In addition to pinpoint kick offs Cox adds the extra two for her team from all across the field with an ease not seen in many girls her age.

Adam Khan (Maryborough State High School, Maryborough)

Age group: U18 Boys

Khan is a genuine X-factor player. His dazzling footwork sees him create his own space from anywhere on the park. Add to this his breakout speed, he becomes a handful for many defenders in open space.

His physical talent in addition to his desire to compete make him one you have to keep an eye on.

Jacob Prlja (St Patricks’ College Shorncliffe)

Age group: U18 Boys

Prlja is an outstanding 7s player. Last year at the conclusion of the All Schools Carnival he Was named in the All Schools team of the tournament as a 16-year-old playing in the U18 competition.

With another year of First XV under his belt, Prlja is coming into this year’s competition in great form and with more experience.

Zane Glanville (Sunshine Coast Grammar School)

Age group: U15 Boys

Glanville has an outstanding rugby IQ which allows him to exploit opportunities for his footwork and speed to do damage on opposition defensive lines.

His ability to create space for himself will attract defenders and through his vision, he can utilise his teammates to capitalise on attacking opportunities.

Luke Aiken (Sunshine Coast Grammar School)

Age group: U18 Boys

Aiken has incredible acceleration that allows him to exploit any opportunities he gets in attack. His leadership is a real asset for any team he plays for as he leads by example and demonstrates excellent work ethic both on and off the field.

Joe Wikaira (Sunshine Coast Grammar School)

Age group: U18 Boys

Wikaira has blistering speed that allows him to punish teams through capitalising any opportunities out wide. He can finish too.

Watch out for Wikaira winding up from anywhere within his 22 against unstructured defence.

Declan Brown (Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar)

Age group: U18 Boys

Brown has sharp footwork, great vision and an uncanny ability to confuse the opposition defense with an array of different passes, including a great long ball.

Giselle Smith (Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar)

Age group: U18 Girls

Smith is a powerful runner and ball handler with a great mix of speed and strength that makes her dangerous on the 7s field.

Levi Dangerfield (Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar)

Age group: U18 Boys

Dangerfield has great speed for a big man, a massive fend and a great in and away step. Alongside this, he has a big motor which makes him a player to watch on the 7s field.

Koen Hodge (Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar)

Age group: U15 Boys

Hodge is a rangy and tough player with speed to burn. He has a ferocious fend if he gets on the outside of his opposition.

Eden Humphries (Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar)

Age group: U13 Boys

Humphries has a great rugby IQ, strong defense and great ball playing ability. He will set up tries, save them and cause confusion in the mind of his rivals.

Leilani Hills (Brisbane State High School, South Brisbane)

Age group: U18 Girls

Hills is part of the QAS Squad. In space, there’s not many that can catch her.

Sinead Swartz (Brisbane State High School, South Brisbane)

Age group: U18 Girls

Swarts is part of the QAS squad. Why? Her footwork and speed is unrivalled.

Olivia Georgas (Brisbane State High School, South Brisbane)

Age group: U18 Girls

Georgas’ tackling, hard nosed defence, kicking and knowledge of the game will give Brisbane SHS the edge against their rivals.

Sienna Ibrahim (Brisbane State High School, South Brisbane)

Age group: U15 Girls

Ibrahim is strong player with great balls kills. She is very perceptive, strategic and tactical when orchestrating plays. It’s worth noting she plays AFl at a Qld level.

Aya Stafford (Brisbane State High School, South Brisbane)

Age group: U13 Girls

Stafford has fancy footwork and electric speed. On top of that she can kick the ball well in the field of play.

Indiana Scheffler (Brisbane State High School, South Brisbane)

Age group: U13 Girls

With speed, ball skills and strength through contact, while being a strong player who can fend well, make Scheffler a 7s all-rounder.
