Former Wallaby captain Ben Mowen returns to coach at his old AIC school of Villanova College

Former Wallaby captain Ben Mowen will return to his old school of Villanova College after being appointed Director of Rugby Coaching and Player Development for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Old boy Mowen (2002), a veteran of 15 Tests including six as captain, said he was excited to return to the college to “guide the development of current and future generations of Villa rugby players’’.
“I am excited to add a professional level of detail to the existing pathway at Villanova College and hope to play a part in developing the overall success of the rugby program,’’ the Easts Tigers champion said.

“I am very much looking forward to working closely with the parents and teachers who have done an excellent job in evolving the rugby program from what it was when I was at Villa.”
Mowen has been gathering coaching experience at pace after returning from a six season career in France in 2019.
This year he was on the coaching staff with both the Reds Academy and junior Wallabies.
Villanova College principal Mark Stower was delighted to have someone of Mowen’s expertise and college history back at Villanova.
“I have no doubt all players and coaches will welcome Ben with open arms and we look forward to him sharing his knowledge and passion of the game to all involved in our rugby program.
“Both Andrew Slack and Ben Mowen, former Wallabies captains and Old Boys of the College, serve as great inspirations and fine role models to our students.
“On the back of many solid sporting results by Villanova College in the AIC competition, we are hoping to add further success to our rugby program through additional coaching and player development.”
Villanova were well performed in the brief AIC First XCV competition, unlucky to be beaten by St Laurence’s College in round 1.
