EVERY Pakistan wicket from Day 4 as Australia wins First Test

The final round of fixtures before the Christmas break were played over the weekend and all the top performers are recognised here.

From Men’s first and second grade and Premier Women’s first grade to the Taverners Girls Under 16 competition, there was no shortage of stellar individual efforts.

Toombul’s Preston White was exceptional again as the Clayton brothers Jack and Max fired for University.

Harmon Sandhu, the younger brother of Gurinder, Ipswich’s Jem Ryan and North’s captain Bridie Swain shone like beacons in the final games for three weeks.

MENS FIRST GRADE

Redlands 10-276 def Western Suburbs 10-183

Jake Carden (Redlands)

Carden cashed in one last time before the break with a three wicket haul.

He led the way for the Tigers, snaring three of the first four wickets with a ripping spell.

Jack Jarvis (11-3-22-4) was his accomplice who tore through the Wests middle order before Jack Sinfield channelled his Mitchell Starc gene and swept through the bowlers for three quick wickets.

Steven McGiffin and Harry McNeilly (Western Surburbs)

West’s Mr Consistent Steven McGiffin was strong with the blade yet again, hitting 42 from 88 in a measured innings.

He dug in alongside McNeilly who played brilliantly for 43, hitting seven boundaries on the way.

Blake Edwards (Western Suburbs)

Edwards tried his best to restrict the Tigers.

He took three wickets in a row to dismantle the Redlands top order and leaked 49 runs in 23 overs.

Darcy Murphy (16.2-5-43-2) picked up three wickets as well.

Liam Smith and Bailey Stewart (Redlands)

Smith opened the batting and scored 84 while Stewart came in at No.7 and scored 70 rapidly.

The pair complimented each other with Smith taking his time while wickets fall around him, before Stewart said ‘it’s time to fire’ with a cracking innings which featured nine fours and two sixes.

Sunshine Coast 3-d-126 v Sandgate-Redcliffe 10-116 and 8-183

Tom Engelbrecht (Sunshine Coast)

Engelbrecht had a day out with four wickets in the first innings and two more in the second to prove his worth in the Sunshine Coast attack.

Lleyton Chick (Sunshine Coast)

Chick charged the Scorchers towards victory with three wickets in the first innings and a fifer in the second in a sensational game.

He dismissed not one, not two, but three Gators batters for naught in the second innings.

Josh Matthews and Sam Truloff (Sunshine Coast)

Matthews saw them like balloons opening the batting.

He scored 115 from 104 with 17 fours and four sixes piling on the pain for the Sandgate-Redcliffe bowlers.

Truloff had a captain’s knock also however he was undone by Lakshdeep Singh five runs shy of his century.

Harrison Clark-Burnham made up for it however when he thumped 35 runs off just 12 balls.

Special mention to Steven Cawood (44,100 balls) and young gun Steven Hogan (49*, 96 balls) who stood tall for the Gators in the second innings.

Toombul 4-d-363 v South Brisbane 10-219

James Ward (South Brisbane)

No. 9 batter James Ward proved he is a finisher through and through with a gritty knock of 54 at the end of the South’s innings.

He gave himself a total to defend and then took two wickets.

Thomas Balkin and Preston White (Toombul)

Balkin hit his strap in this game, the youngster taking five wickets to blow South Brisbane’s house down.

He took four in a row at one point, and with White also applying pressure (25.3-8-56-3), Toombul took full control.

White, who is averaging 56.18 on the season, outdid himself with a splendid knock of 147 with the bat.

Sam Wilson (100*, 90), enjoyed his time at the crease alongside White and brought up triple figures in a commanding victory by Toombul.

Special mention to Amritpal Grewal (65) who opened the batting finely for Toombul.

University 10-402 v Northern Suburbs 7-167

Captain Clayton was mesmerising in his 113 run effort.

He faced just 82 deliveries and hit 15 fours and three sixes to rain terror on the Norths bowling attack.

Jack’s brother Max scored a half-century as well in a Clayton Clinic at University.

James Grady and Matt Willans (University)

Grady brought a second dimension to an already strong University outfit.

He scored 69 late in the game, while Matt Willans did his thing at the other end for 69 of his own.

James Lindsay (University)

Lindsay (11-2-29-3) was destructive snaring the wickets of both North’s openers.

Ipswich 10-204 v Valley 10-189

Jake Ross and Jem Ryan (Ipswich)

In a gripping battle at Yoku road it was the heroics of Ross (50, 41 balls) and Ryan (48*, 92 balls), which won the game for Ipswich.

Cross arrived at the crease with his team 6-84 and when he left they were closing in on 200, Ryan and Cross combining for a crucial partnership of 66.

Valley pace bowlers Saxon Jeh and Benji Floros took five wickets between them and upheld their end of the bargain, as did Joseph Pratt (16-1-52-3).

Harrison Wood (Ipswich)

Wood picked up two wickets early and then returned for another spell where he claimed two more, while Ryan (20-5-38-3) was on the money yet again.

Both Ryan, Wood and Sean Lutter had the Valley batters wrapped around their fingers.

Special mention to Valley bowlers Benji Floros (35 runs), Saxon Jeh (20*, 115 balls) and Callum Vidler (16, 111 balls) who rallied hard.

Wynnum-Manly 10-207 v Gold Coast 10-142

Ali Nasar Zaidi and Grayson Jones (Wynnum-Manly)

Zaidi (43) and Jones (48) had an important partnership of 47 which allowed the Sea Eagles to post a formidable 207.

Harmon Sandhu’s (38,43 balls) late game impact with the blade was also crucial to victory.

Jackson Smith (Gold Coast)

In a losing effort Smith did all he could.

Smith took five wickets in 15 overs and picked up the key wicket’s of Joes and Sandhu before more damage was dealt.

Gurinder’s younger brother won the game for Wynnum-Manly despite a classy knock from Dolphins opener Brad Munro (48).

Sandhu did it all. 38 with the bat, then five wickets in 17 overs with the ball.

MENS SECOND GRADE

Gold Coast 7-299 v Wynnum-Manly 10-227

Jordan Kingdon (Wynnum-Manly)

No. 3 batter Kingdon was all class, scoring 74 from 173 in a measured effort against the Gold Coast.

He stood tall when wickets were falling at the other end.

Kane Hurley and Tyler Smith (Gold Coast)

Hurley (14-4-40-3) and Smith (22-9-42-3) worked wonders at the bowling crease with skipper Hurley making the initial breakthrough before Smith joined the party and skidded the Sea Eagles middle order.

Bailey Sewell (Gold Cosat)

No. 5 batter Sewell took matters into his own hands.

He scored 134 from 147 deliveries and with Bailey Garnham by his side, the Dolphins never looked like losing.

Garnham scored 75 in the game-winning 174-run-stand.

Ipswich 3-140 and 10/62 v Valley 6-d-195

Charlie Thomas (Valley)

Thomas took six wickets in this one, destroying the Ipswich batting order with an excellent bowling display.

With the help of his teammates, Thomas had Ipswich all out for 62.

Cooper Mackie and Brock McLachlan (Valley)

While sales were booming for new business owner Cooper Mackie, the second grade batter still had laser sharp focus in the middle.

Mackie scored 74 before being run out, and scored well with McLachlan (55*) by his side.

Ethan Ramsbotham (Ipswich)

In the Hornet’s much improved second innings, Ramsbotham was a hard man to dismiss.

He faced 165 balls for his 70 and had the Valley bowlers infuriated.

Northern Suburbs 10-294 v University 6-168

Oliver Lunt (Northern Suburbs)

Opening batter Lunt closed out the pre-Christmas season with a wonderful century.

He scored 106 from 215 and formed partnerships with Harrison Tzannes and Hayden Brough who scored 28 and 30 respectively.

Zane Newton (41) and Dan Brown (38*) scored runs in a flurry for Norths as well.

Christopher Peirson (University)

Peison was a one-man-wrecking-crew, producing three wickets and 44 runs in a stellar effort over both weekends.

Tom Kelaart (43) dug deep for University as well but Norths, spearheaded by Sam Hele (12-2-37-3), were too strong.

South Brisbane 10-293 v Toombul 3-88

Shoun Roger, Trent Pearce and Lachlan Biggs (South Brisbane)

South Brisbane had a trio of batters stand up and perform.

It started with Roger who hit 63 from 166 to get the scoreboard ticking.

From there, captain Pearce (40) rotated the strike very nicely with Lachlan Biggs, who went big for 97.

Biggs was run out three runs short of his century thanks to the work of Lachlan Hartshorn.

Lachlan Hartshorn (Toombul)

Hartshorn made noise with his five wicket haul, tearing the South’s top order to shreds before collecting a further two wickets in later spells.

He was responsible for six of his team’s ten wickets with Jarryd Blake (32.4-8-71-4) working himself to a standstill.

Oliver West (Toombul)

The small but powerful West scored an unbeaten 42 for Toombul which was just what the doctor ordered for Toombul.

Sunshine Coast 8-d-290 v Sandgate-Redcliffe 10-183 and 7-152

Rory Livingstone (Sandgate-Redcliffe)

Gators captain Rory Livingstone scored 70 in the first innings then 23 in the second in a fine win by Sandgate-Redcliffe.

Jackson Mills (63) produced a brilliant knock when his team so desperately needed in the Gator’s second innings of the match.

Mills, with help from Moore (24), Livingstone (23) and Benjamin Brandt (13*, 60 balls), were able to put the Scorchers to sleep.

Sunshine Coast Scorchers

In their lone batting innings of the match, the Scorchers had a variety of strong performers.

With the ball Corey Spink took three wickets, Benjamin Baker five and Brayden Forrest four while Kuchu Ekanayake (47, 47 balls), Jack Whisker (34, 54 balls), Ashton Muir (48, 51 balls), Cody Pyne (85, 84 balls) and Spink (28, 47 balls) took the Gators bowlers on with intent to score.

In the game between Redlands and Wests, Queensland Under 19 selection Angus Tolhurst snared five wickets in 35 overs of bowling while Damyn Waddups (118, 194 balls) brought up triple figures with a fine knock for Wests.

PREMIER WOMEN FIRST GRADE

University 10-298 def Ipswich 10-97

Laura Harris, Tara Wheeler and Nicola Hancock (University)

The stars came to play for University and what a statement they made.

Posting 298 in 40 overs, Harris (71, 26 balls), Wheeler (54, 70 balls) and Hancock (40, 25 balls) were all magnificent.

Indeed Harris scored at a whopping strike rate of 273. Then, Hancock begun her onslaught with three wickets at 1.5 runs an over.

Melissa Lewis (Ipswich)

Lewis mixed it with the best, taking three wickets and scoring eight runs in a gallant effort against a powerhouse University outfit.

Sunshine Coast 1-116 def Sandgate-Redcliffe 10-115

Jessica Cremin (Sandgate-Redcliffe)

No. 10 batter Jessica Cremin topscored for the Gators with a gutsy 36* from 44 balls.

Maddie Duncan, Ruby Orchard and Ruth Johnston (Sunshine Coast)

The Scorchers bowling attack was on fire at the weekend, with Duncan, Orchard and Johnston each claiming three wickets in a tremendous display which saw their rivals all out for 115.

Georgie Boyce and Rachel Priest (Sunshine Coast)

Openers Boyce (44*) and Priest (56) had no troubles in their pursuit of 116 with their opening stand of 93 earning victory for the Sunshine Coast by the 19th over.

Western Suburbs 1-53 def Gold Coast 10-51

Filippa SueSee (Western Suburbs)

SueSee snared three wickets in West’s demolition of the Gold Coast.

With the bat, Chelsea Sonter (22*) and Ruby Strange (19*) scored the winning runs after contributing in the field.

Wynnum-Manly 9-204 def Valley 10-155

Ellie Johnston and Holly Barr (Wynnum-Manly)

The Sea-Eagles came ready to play on Sunday with seven of their batters notching double figures.

Openers Rebecca Riddell (24) and Ellie Johnston (45) put on 56 together, before Amy Riddell (28), Eve Mollee (14), Holly Barr (34, 19 balls), Clodagh Ryall (12) and Samantha Smithers (16) left their mark on the match.

Once again Christina Coulson was the pick of the bowlers for Valley, the off-spinner collecting three wickets.

Mikayla Hinkley (Valley)

Hinkley (34), Megan Jones (29) and Ella Harvey (25) fought hard at the batting crease but it was all in vein as Smithers (5-0-25-2), Ryall (9.5-2-31-3) and Amreen Kahlon (10-0-40-3) took care of business with ball in hand.

TAVERNERS GIRLS UNDER 16

Ipswich 8-152 v Western Suburbs 8-135

Lucy Williams (Ipswich)

Williams spearheaded Ipswich to a strong total of 152, the No. 3 batter scoring 39 from 56 deliveries.

Georgia Black (Western Suburbs)

Black took three wickets but more impressively bowled just one wide in eight overs.

For context, Wests gave Ipswich 40 runs in extras.

Black also opened the batting and did not dissapoint with a match-high 42 from 54 balls.

Olivia Williams (Ipswich)

Williams leaked 34 runs in six overs but was lethal taking three wickets in an ambush on the Wests top order.

Sandgate-Redcliffe 7-69 v Wynnum-Manly

Neve Roy (Wynnum-Manly)

The Sea Eagles second grade player took two wickets, one of which was the first of the innings.

Roy went for two runs an over and helped restrict the Gators to 69.

Samantha Lindsay (Sandgate-Redcliffe)

Lindsay threatened from ball No. 1 and had three wickets next to her name by the end of the game.

She claimed the scalps of both Wynnum-Manly openers.

Special mention to Sandgate-Redcliffe’s Alana Bettington for picking up three wickets.

Gold Coast 1-140 v South Brisbane 8-139

Corey Ross (Gold Coast)

Ross picked up the ultra-important wicket of South Brisbane’s opener Reniesha-Rub Rony (31) and was rewarded for this when she took two more wickets in her second spell.

Reniesha-Rub Rony and Eady Burg (South Brisbane)

Rony scored 31 from 52 against the new ball before Burg, the Suuth Brisbane captain, dazzled for 46 runs.

Chelsie Stanley, Annika Bjorkman, Riley Dealy (Gold Coast)

This trio took no prisoners with the bat to ensure a clinical victory.

Stanley (23, 22 balls) and Bjorkmnan (69*, 72 balls) began the chase, before Dealy (24*, 35 balls) helped captain Bjorkman finish the job.

Sunshine Coast 7-181 v Northern Suburbs 6-180

Bridie Swain (Northern Suburbs)

Swain was superb. She scored an unbeaten 95 at run-a-ball pace and smashed 10 boundaries doing so.

Evie Baker (Sunshine Coast)

Baker went without the prized wicket of Swain but was destructive regardless.

She took three wickets at 2.5 runs an over.

Gabriella Temple, Mailee Fearon (Sunshine Coast)

Temple (26, 40 balls) and skipper Fearon (69, 57 balls) gobbled up North’s score of 180 in a flash.

It’s worth noting Jasmine Comerford (24) and Evie Baker (15*) had telling cameos in the Scorcher’s pursuit of the target.

Valley 4-107 v University 7-103

Anisha Sarkar (University)

Sarkar held firm scoring 29 against a Valley outfit which utilised nine bowlers.

Chelsea Dale and Deepika Bogahawatta (Valley)

Dale (21) and Bogahawatta (20) relished playing girls their age with a 50-run-stand which set the wheels in motion for Valley.
