ALICIA Coutts will have one more race in her Olympic swan song after she qualified sixth for the 200m individual medley final.
Coutts, who has announced she will retire after the Games, finished third in her heat behind Great Britain’s Siobhan-Marie O’Connor (2:07.57) and Madeline Dirado (2:08.91) of the US with a time of 2:10.35.
The 29-year-old, who lived in the Logan suburb of Shailer Park for 18 years and attended nearby school’s St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School and Chisholm Catholic College, was exhausted after the race but pleased to qualify for one last swim.
“I knew tonight could possibly be the last swim of my career so I just wanted to go and give it my all and that’s all I had tonight,” she told Channel 7’s Olympic coverage after the race.
“It really hurt, I didn’t feel as good as I did this morning so we’ll see what happens.
“It was pretty painful so I think I just probably was a little mentally not there.”
- The final is scheduled for 12.29pm Wednesday AEST.
