The Big Bash League will start early for Queensland Cricket’s faithful when the state’s elite players flood the Premier Grade T20 club scene this weekend.
King of the big swing, Chris Lynn, will be joined by Queensland Sheffield Shield players in returning to the crease after spending two weeks in isolation after returning from COVID-19 hot spot Adelaide following the opening rounds of Shield cricket.
Lynn is returning from a stint in the Indian Premier League.
The Big Bash League is scheduled to start on December 10, but all the fun of the short game will come early to club cricket on Sunday when two rounds are played, and then again the following weekend when three rounds are contested.
Hundreds were expected at suburban grounds to watch Lynn, Matt Renshaw (both Toombul) and crew get the tempo for Premier Cricket’s two rounds of T20 after being in isolation.
The galaxy of stars expected at the crease at some stage either this Sunday or the following weekend of T20 will be: Chris Lynn (Toombul), James Bazley (Redlands), Xavier Bartlett, (Gold Coast), Max Bryant (Gold Coast), Sam Heazlett (Redlands), Matt Kuhnemann (Gold Coast), Ben Laughlin (Sunshine Coast), Jimmy Peirson (Redlands), Matt Willans (UQ) and Jack Wildermuth (Valley).
Also, Cameron Boyce (Valley – Melbourne Renegades), Ben Cutting (South Brisbane – Sydney Thunder) and possibly Usman Khawaja (Valley – Sydney Thunder) will be other BBL players in the mix. Renshaw is playing for the Adelaide Strikers this season.

The rounds take on particular importance given the Brisbane Heat may have to draft up to four replacement players into the BBL squad to replace Australian representatives.
The Heat are looking at potentially three and maybe four replacement players for the first few weeks of the tournament – currently the Heat could have Marnus Labuschagne, Joe Burns, Mitch Swepson and Mark Steketee away on either ODI/T20 duties or Australia ‘A’ duties.
The likes of inform wicketkeepers Lachlan Pfeffer (Valley) or Leigh Drennan (Redlands) might get one of the spots purely as the back-up ‘keeper to Jimmy Peirson given Tom Banton is not available for the first few games.

Previous BBL players such as Simon Milenko and Gurinder Sandhu (Souths) would be in the mix for sure while Blake Edwards (Wests), who is currently recovering from a side-strain, and Connor Sully (Norths) would be bowling replacement options.
Multi-skilled players like Nathan McSweeney (Norths), Andrew Gode (Valley), Bryce Street (Sandgate-Redcliffe), Jack Clayton (UQ) and Hugo Burdon (Gold Coast) might be in line for one of the spots as back-up batting all-rounder positions.
On the spinning front, left-arm wrist spinner Jack Wood (Ipswich/Logan) is the leading contender to join Matt Kuhnemann if Mitch Swepson is away, although two young spinners – Jackson Sinfield (Redlands) and Zanden Jeh (Valley) would probably be discussed.
The Heat squad is: Tom Banton (Eng), Xavier Bartlett, James Bazley, Max Bryant, Joe Burns, Tom Cooper, Sam Heazlett, Lewis Gregory, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Dan Lawrence, Ben Laughlin, Chris Lynn, Morne Morkel, Jimmy Peirson, Mark Steketee, Mitch Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Jack Wildermuth, Matt Willans.
