With a lightweight pack and an up-tempo style of game, Villanova College will enter the 2020 AIC rugby season capable of beating any side in the competition
Coached by Paul Davey, Villanova will play arch rivals St Laurence’s College in a season opening blockbuster at Villanova Park on August 22.
With Laurie’s promising the appearance of another tough, uncompromising forward pack, it will be intriguing to see the match unfold because Villa were sure to be a smaller pack full of zest.
“We are not a big size physically, so speed around the pitch is key to our game,’’ Davey said.
“We are capable of beating any other team in AIC, but in a shortened season the focus on each match will be important and we will be drawing on our experience from the returning players.’’

Around half the side were regular starting First XV players last season, so there is a nice blend of new players and experience.
Leaders of the side will be prop Ollie Harris and fullback Hamish Muir, with Harris a young veteran of the side having played third seasons in the Firsts.
Muir, an exciting fullback who has made the Queensland Schoolboys No. 2 side and the Queensland sevens representative team last season, will be a player to watch.
In addition diminutive flankers Hamish McKee and Paddy Cox are quick to the ball and strong pilferers.
