Ashish Neredumilli and Sritam Sai Vytla produced magnificent bowling figures to upset Marist College Ashgrove on St Peters Lutheran College’s Pink Stumps Day in a stunning round of AIC First XI cricket last weekend.

Neredumilli’s four wickets (6-2-23-4) and Vytla’s four (2.3-0-10-4) were simply incredible, with the pair’s combined eight wickets seeing Marist College Ashgrove dismissed for 78.

The most impressive thing is the St Peters duo were defending just 95 after Ashgrove’s Will Easter claimed five wickets.

A right hand swing bowler who has been excellent for the St Peters First XI over the past three years, Neredumilli cashed in for three wickets in the same over, catapulting his opposition onto the backfoot.

As a result of their Pink Stumps Day heroics, Neredumilli and Vytla were the first players selected in our latest team of the Week.

Joshua Ritchie (Iona)

He missed out on what would have been a wonderful match up between Iona and Ashgrove in round three because of rain, but he made up for lost time was this masterful innings of 66. He hit four fours and three sixes to help Iona to a total of 237.

Toby Collins (Iona)

Collins was in cruise control at Davine Oval, with the No. 5 batter scoring 61 from 75 balls in a fantastic innings. He hit six fours.

Clancy Muniandy (Iona)

It was a day of brilliance from the Iona batsman. Muniandy was not going to miss out on the fun, with the No. 7 hitting 40 runs from 40m balls in a quickfire cameo to polish the Iona innings.

Thomas Stenhouse (St Laurence’s)

The No. 6 batsman Stenhouse used his power to plunder 57 runs from 53 balls.

His innings featured seven boundaries and he shared in a match-defining partnership with Aiden Mohr.

William Tozer (Padua)

The all-rounder from Padua was marvellous yet again. He scored an innings high 69 not out with the bat and that was after collecting two wickets with the ball.

He was stellar in a losing effort and it cannot be overstated how brilliant he was, arriving at the crease at 2-19 and seeing the innings out.

Callum McKeon (Iona)

Iona’s McKeon had a patch of magic during Padua’s batting innings which halted all of their momentum and swung the game completely in his team’s favour.

McKeon was an automatic selection following his three consecutive wickets which dismissed potential batting partners of Tozer – who was set for a big finish.

He finished with figures of 8-0-23-3.

Louis Morris (Ashgrove)

Morris spun a web around his rivals so they could not score a run off him.

The masterful slow-bowler finished with figures of 2-4 from eight overs and his pressure bowling helped teammate Will Easter to a five wicket haul.

Will Easter (Ashgrove)

It’s not often five wickets in an innings is not enough to bowl a side to victory, but that was the case on Saturday when home side St Peters bowled out Easter’s Ashgrove for 78. In the first innings Easter’s five-wickets saw the Saints side all out for 95.

Easter was excellent in making the most of the groundwork laid by Morris, Joey Laner, Sam Lewis and right arm pacemen Archie Murray.

Ashish Neredumilli (St Peters)

Speaking of excellence, wasn’t Neredumilli just that.

A swing bowler, Neredumilli ruffled the feathers of Ashgrove’s batters when he snared three wickets for loss of no run.

He went bang, bang, bang to see Ashgrove go from 0-24 to 3-24 in the blink of an eye.

He kept his foot on the gas and took Laner’s wicket shortly after which sent the Ashgrove innings into a spiral.

Sritam Sai Vytla (St Peters)

What Neredumili started, Vytla finished in a win for the ages.

On the school’s Pink Stumps Day, Vytla channelled his inner Mitchell Starc and cleaned up the Ashgrove tail in a sensational 15-ball-spell.

Vytla picked up four wickets.

Cameron Plackett (Padua)

It’s never easy bowling to Iona batsmen, especially on Davine Oval. The fields are small and Iona love it there.

But high praise to swing bowler Plackett who dismissed danger men Ritchie and Muniandy.

He finished with figures of 10-1-47-3.

Ned Godwin (Villanova)

Godwin’s four wicket effort had St Edmund’s all out for just 68 at the weekend.

After an early breakthrough from Henrik Frederiksen, Godwin pounced to collect two top order wickets. Later in his spell he caught fire and claimed the scalp of two batters in the same over.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

Rylan McDonald (St Edmund’s)

McDonald was the shining light for St Edmund’s on Saturday.

In an underwhelming batting effort, McDonald managed an unbeaten 12 at No. 8 and then dismissed both of Villanova’s openers with the new ball.

Defending 68 runs, McDonald moved quickly to have Villanova 2-13.

In came Finn Thallon and Mitchell Francis to take care of business for Villanova.

Thallon (26 not out, 16 balls) and Francis (24 not out, 28 balls) had a bit of fun on Saturday when they chased down the St Edmund’s total together.

Big hitter Thallon and the classy Francis had the game wrapped up after 12 overs.

Adam Hogan (St Patrick’s)

Young Hogan, the brother of Year 11 student Steve who is playing first grade cricket for Sandgate-Redcliffe each on the weekend, claimed a four wicket haul.

Hogan was the pick of the St Patrick’s bowlers despite going for five an over.

He claimed the wicket of Santos first and then sent a ripple through the St Laurence’s bottom order with three timely wickets which prevented further damage.

Theo Tsingos (St Patrick’s)

Tsingos bowled brilliantly for St Patrick’s then backed it up with a brave batting effort.

His bowling figures were 7-2-14-2, with each wicket an important one. With blade in hand, No. 8 batsman Tsingos hit 23 while his brother Austin took a wicket and scored 19 (15 balls).

Evan Chamberlin and Nate Bainbrigge (St Laurence’s)

Things clicked into motion for St Laurence’s on Saturday.

Leading the way was Santos, Mohr and Stenhouse with the bat and then Chamberlin and Bainbrigge with the ball, the pair combining for five wickets in a clinical bowling effort.

Sam Lewis (Ashgrove)

A regular in the Team of the Week, Lewis again had a strong performance with both bat and ball. He bowled well (10-3-15-1) and then scored 16 against the new ball to get Ashgrove off to a promising start.

Isaac Nixon and Ryan Out (Padua)

Nixon went for just two runs an over while off spinner Out went for 2.66 an hour and snared a wicket.

The pair of them were Padua’s most economical bowlers coming up against an Iona side which scored at a run rate of 4.74 across its fifty overs.

Xavier Santos (St Laurence’s)

Young veteran Santos scored a steady 34 (84 balls) in an early rescue mission after the side lost both of its openers cheaply.

Santos’ determination at the crease saw him build partnerships with Aiden Mohr and Daniel Gray.

Aiden Mohr (St Laurence’s)

Mohr scored 35 from 52 at the weekend and was Stenhouse’s right hand man, calling him through for quick singles and putting St Laurence’s on the front foot heading into the lunch break.
