AIC First XI Cricket - key Players to Watch

AIC First XI Cricket: Who will be some of the key Players to Watch when our coverage starts on Saturday? Story here

The www.couriermail.com.au will again cover the AIC First XI cricket season which starts on Saturday.

In a bumper round 1 - technically round 2 after a one week delay due to COVID-19 precautions - St Peters Lutheran College, St Patrick’s College, Padua and Marist College Ashgrove will host matches.

Watch for our coverage each Saturday evening.

Below are the names of some key Players to Watch in season 2022.

St Laurence’s College

Callum Reidy

All-rounder Reidy will have the distinction of captaining Laurie’s. He will bat No. 4 and open the bowling, while also setting a high standard in the field.

Mackenzie Douglas

Another all-rounder, Douglas will bat in the middle order and bowl leg spin. He will have benefited from last season’s experience in the Firsts.

St Edmund’s College

Ben Naish

A Year 11 student, Naish will be entering his second season of First XI cricket. Naish has the batting elegance of Mark Waugh and bowls accurate medium-fast seamers. He is the ultimate competitor and loves the challenge of AIC 1st XI Cricket. He also excels in many sports, but has a passion for cricket and will lead by example.

Villanova College

Liam McConville

An all-rounder, McConville will bat in the middle order and bowl first change. This will be his second season in the Firsts.

Cameron Bukowski

The multi-talented Bukowski is an explosive left handed top order batsman who also bowls some right handed handy medium pace. He is returning for his second season of First XI.

Dimitri Horton

Horton will be the gloveman and bat in the middle order. He will bring lots of fielding energy to the team again.

Iona College

Cayman Poole

Poole will be the captain, top order batsman and gloveman in what will be his third season as First XI player.

Daniel Linning

Leg spinner Linning will enter his third season as First XI player. He and Poole will provide the experience in a young side which will feature a number of Year 10 and 11 - some of whom have Taverners and club experience at Redlands and Wynnum-Manly.

Padua College

Ryan Pembroke

Year 12 student Pembroke will have the honour of captaining Padua this season. He will enter his third season in the Firsts, an excellent all-rounder who bowls medium pace.

Joe Cotgreave

Like Ryan Pembroke and Josh Nevill, see below, Cotgreave is a Toombul grade player. He will also be entering his third season in the Firsts as a batsman and leg spin bowler.

Josh Nevill

The year 12 student will be looking to build on experiences gained in the Firsts last season when he enters his second season in the Firsts XI - bowling leg spin bowler.

Marist College Ashgrove

Marcus Zipf

Zipf is a second year First XI player who last season bowled some crucial overs in the middle of an innings to help break up partnerships. He will look to help lead the bowling attack with his pace and bounce.

Ryan Harten

Harten played a handful of games in the First XI last season due to dominant performances in the Second XI. He is an opening bowler and hard-hitting lower order batsman.

Sam Lewis

Lewis made his debut in the last round in 2021 as a Year 9 student, taking two wickets. He is a crafty spin bowler.

St Patrick’s College

Charles Moore

If this name is familiar to followers of AIC First XI cricket, it should be. Moore, a top order batsman and leg-spinner, will be entering his fourth season of Firsts. The stylish Moore is likely to open the innings.

Harry Clench and Lachlan Hartshorn

Paddies’ will have an element of experience about their side in 2022, with both Lachlan Hartshorn and Harry Clench third season players. Clench will open the batting and bowl off-spin while Hartshorn will open the bowling and bat in the middle order.

Joel Heinrich

Another returning First XI player, Heinrich is a talented left arm opening bowler and middle order batsman.

St Peters Lutheran College

Sam Batiste

As captain and wicket keeper, Batiste will be a busy boy in what will be his third season in the Firsts. He is also an attacking right hand bat and good hands behind the stumps.

Curtis Beevers

Beevers has been a model of consistency throughout his time in the St Peters program, the squad’s best all round performance for consistency with both bat and ball.

Matt Harvie

Harvie will enter his second season in the Firsts. He is a very promising right hand bat and leg spin bowler.
