Who were the key players in the AIC First V Basketball competition?
It is a competition with two teams Villanova College and St Peters Lutheran College on a round 7 collision course for the premiership.
Both teams are five-from-five and are armed with elite talent.
Speaking of talent, see below some of the AIC’s best bucket getters who have asserted themselves in five rounds so far.
Two of the finest are Kye Van Beest and Cooper Rowlings of St Peters.
Both boys have been invited to attend the U17 National Emus Team Selection Camp in Canberra this week.
AIC BASKETBALL’S KEY PLAYERS
PADUA COLLEGE
Darby Breeden
The dynamic point guard who is the king of operating under pressure.
Cool, calm and composed.
Samuel Mansfield
The anchor of the team is a promising talent who remains poised in crunch time, and is powerful taking it to the cup.
Lucas Prickett
The big man has developed nicely this season and with heart, hustle and strong habits, Prickett will be one to track the progress of.
MARIST COLLEGE ASHGROVE
Matt Gibson
The shifty point guard who carries the load for Ashgrove.
His mother is an excellent coach and his older brother has immense talent so it is little wonder Matt can play.
Will Ford
An athletic, tallish guard who can guard players one through four, Ford has been a key player for Ashgrove all season.
Can sink ships with his three point shooting but bite on his fake at your peril.
Spencer Mahoney
Who better to smash the glass than this ever-improving big man?
A talented swimmer, Mahoney reels in rebounds as good as anyone.
Jack Forrester
The First XV rugby winger who has springs in his legs.
The bouncy Forrester is a fierce competitor who you shouldn’t try to reject when he’s storming down the lane gearing up for a big finish.
ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE
Mason Keogh
Koegh has been the prime mover for St Patrick’s, leading the team from the front each game.
Bailey Foy
Foy has hit another level this season with his leadership and is a strong contributor to the team’s success despite it not showing in the stat sheet.
Hunter Adams
Adams has extreme speed and can whiz up and down the floor in an instant.
He has silky finishing abiliyu to compliment his devastating pace.
ST PETER’S LUTHERAN COLLEGE
Kye Van Beest
A member of the Queensland State team (alongside Cooper Rowlings), the 200cm senior was unstoppable against Iona in round 5, dominating the paint and the perimeter, finishing with 41 points and 10 rebounds.
One of the top players in the competition, Van Beest made his presence felt against Iona and has been Robin to Rowlings’ Batman this year.
Cooper Rowlings
The towering Rowlins stuffed the stat sheet again in round 5 when he notched 18 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five blocks.
That is no surprise.
Lachlain Rolison
A sharpshooter who can deliver fatal blows with his three point sniping, Rolison is a bucket if St Peters are ever in need.
VILLANOVA COLLEGE
Mason Honeyman
An effortless scorer, Honeyman is a sniper from deep, but also elite with his mid-range game and soft touches around the rim.
He is spearheading Villanova to another premiership but they will have to get past St Peters first.
IONA COLLEGE
Zane MacRae
Highlight reel MacRae has shown his offensive prowess all season long and is the last person you want to match-up against.
He can finish in contact and slam them home and as such, the Iona faithful are often well entertained.
Sam Colley
Sam has brought a high level of intensity, leadership and high level play for Iona all season long. The two-way guard has been one of Iona’s best all season.
Charlie Short
‘Shorty’ has excelled for Iona this year taking on the responsibility of Captain.
He has come in clutch on more than one game this season and there aren’t many better options in the death.
Joe Baker
Baker has flourished as a Year 10 student and if there was a sixth man of the year award it would be his.
The big man has a soft touch and the fact he has two years left should excite Iona supporters.
ST LAURENCE’S COLLEGE
ST EDMUND’S COLLEGE
