3PTAG will be back with a bang in Logan this weekend, with the annual event bursting to life on Friday night, across Saturday and Sunday.

Logan Metro Sports Complex will host the carnival which is the brainchild of 3P Performance directors Matt and Teaghan Hartigan.

A non-contact modified rugby league game for under 12-18s, 3PTAG will feature more than 80 teams, including many players competing in the jerseys of their home nations.

There will be the likes of Fiji, Tonga, Indigenous Australia, Māori, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Lebanon, Jamaica and Samoa all represented.

“3PTAG is designed to provide opportunities for players to develop game sense and core skills in a game setting,’’ Matt Hartigan explained.

“The rules of the game are unique, implemented to create thinking players, encourage attacking play and challenge the defensive line.

“I began to watch a number of tournaments where players wouldn’t play on every play. It became a very play-it-safe style of play. By providing a bonus point on the zero and first tags, it encourages players to play from the moment they get the ball.”

“I have always loved playing a role in the development of young players and I am so excited to see it in a competition format.”

The tournament traditionally attracts the best of schoolboy rugby league talent eager for some off-season action.

Hartigan said it was also a wonderful multicultural sporting event which brought the community together and which “enhanced cultural connection’’.

The competition will be live streamed on the 3PTAG Facebook page.

The carnival will be kick-started by an All-Star match on Friday. Cultural food stalls will also be available.
